Kevin Feige Confirms Line-Up For The Avengers

avengers_assembled

Making a coherent Avengers film that somehow bridges the styles of the other Marvel universe movies probably won’t be an easy job for whoever gets the job. Fans of the comic series are fairly well prepared to see discordant arrangements of characters both crossover and team up, but for a mainstream crowd, the collage might seem a little jarring.

Kevin Feige, the man that Marvel has awarded with the tricky role of orchestrating the whole multi-movie shebang, has recently given an interview to SFX magazine here in the UK. As well as discussing how on earth they’re going to pull these disparate strands together, he also let slip the line-up of established characters we can expect to see in the Avengers picture.

…its three people, four including Hulk , five including Nick Fury - who you have seen before in other movies, coming together for the very first time.

That’s good to know. But will Edward Norton be returning to the role, or will Dr. Banner have to be recast again?

Can’t you just hear the headline quote above intoned in The Dude’s spacey tones? You may have heard about the fact that Iron Man came together more or less without a solid script, but according to Jeff Bridges it was definitely ‘less.’ Read his take on the shoot, which essentially sounds like the actors and Jon Favreau improvised big segments of the movie, after the break. Everett Bradford is, for all intents and purposes, a real-life Tony Stark/Iron Man in the making. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few years we see him flying around the sky fighting supervillains with his self-made robotic suit. He recently demonstrated his “Prometheus Device”, which is a hand-mounted appliance that shoots real fire, in a flame-thrower like blast, into the air. Head on over to Picasa to see scans of Bradford’s design notebook, sketches, CAD shots, and photos of the device in and out of action. Watch a video demonstration of the contraption after the jump.

Jon Favreau has been talking about 3D for a while now. Last year, he admitted that he would love to shoot Iron Man 2 in 3D. The problem with going 3D at this point, Favreau says, is technology. His cinematographer (Matthew Libatique) likes to shoot film, and likes the look of film. 3D would require him to shoot digital, and between that constraint and the additional expense, it wasn’t an option for Iron Man 2.

But now, AinItCool is reporting that Marvel is tinkering with converting Iron Man 2 to Digital 3D. Apparently the comic book and film company had one minute of the sequel converted into 3D as a demo, which has all the suits impressed. So impressed that they put out bid requests to three companies to see exactly how much the conversion process would cost, and how long it might take.

I’m not a 3D evangelist, but I am one of the few bloggers who believes the technology offers more than a gimmick. I’ll admit, 3D movies still excite me, especially when the technology is used to help tell the story, adding another dimension of emotional investment depth. I’m even excited about the possibility of remastering old films, like Toy Story and Toy Story 2 for example, in 3D.

I would love Love LOVE to see Iron Man flying in Digital 3D…

That said, I don’t think this is a good idea. Why? Find out after the jump.

Video Blog: Disney’s Acquisition of Marvel

Disney Marvel

Early this morning, every fanboy and fangirl woke up to some shocking news… The Walt Disney company announced they were buying Marvel Entertainment for $4 Billion in cash and stock. Yes, $4 Billion. While some fanboys immediately thought this was the worst thing they’ve ever heard, others were excited by the possibilities of a merger between these two entertainment juggernauts. After all, combining all the characters of the Marvel universe with a company that owns theme parks, cable channels, and makes movies, the potential for even more Marvel characters getting a shot at prime time or a movie screen just increased.

Since this news was the type that Steve (Collider) and I would talk about on the phone, we decided to record one of our video blogs to share our conversation with all of you. So if you’d like to watch what Steve and I think about the deal and why we both think this could be a good thing… take a look after the jump.

About a year ago, we reported that Marvel had tapped the famous animation studio Madhouse to create four anime series for release in 2010, the first two of which would be based on Wolverine and Iron Man. The anime projects will be written by renowned writer Warren Ellis, who most recently wrote the kick-ass G.I. Joe: Resolute web shorts. Now that we’re getting so close to the release dates we can finally catch a glimpse of these projects in action, and they certainly look interesting

Twitch has dug up the teasers on Youtube, which you can find embedded after the break.
