CHUD has confirmed that Warner Bros had to do reshoots last week for the upcoming Will Smith sci-fi thriller I Am Legend. And rumor has it that the studio was unhappy with the film’s finale, which is said to be very faithful to Richard Matheson’s original story. So if true, expect something upbeat and more action packed.
I’m wondering if the ending tested poorly or if it was just an internal decision? Either way, reshoots are never a good sign for any film, especially this late in the game. I Am Legend is scheduled to hit theaters exactly one month from today. The press junket/screening for the movie takes place in two weeks. The guys at Warners better hurry. Am I now the only one still looking forward to this film?
Two new I Am Legend movie trailers are now online. First up is an international trailer. The new look is less mysterious, and more forthcoming. I liked it a little better the other way when less was more (check out that teaser trailer here).
The official domesticc trailer makes I Am Legend look a lot more like a kick ass sci-fi movie. I prefer the new US trailer, and I think you might as well. It’s more action packed and sharply edited to Clint Mansell’s awesome score from The Fountain. I’m probably more excited for this film, than any movie coming out in the rest of 2007 (that I haven’t yet seen).
Check out the new trailers below.

Are you itching to see some footage from The Dark Knight? Omelete is reporting that Warner Bros plans to release a 7-minute prologue to The Dark Knight in front of the IMAX screenings of I Am Legend on December 14th. The footage will apparently feature Heath Ledger as The Joker. But remember, the 7-minute prologue will only be attached to the IMAX version (which I’m assuming is a cross promotion since Dark Knight will also premiere on the huge IMAX screen). We’ll try to find out more details.
Warner Bros has released a new poster for the big screen adaptation of I Am Legend starring Will Smith. This is one of the films I’m really looking forward to this holiday season. If you haven’t seen the movie trailer released in June, click here to watch it now.
The middle of the poster features very small text that reads “Is there anybody out there. Anybody please. You are not alone. My name is Robert Neville, I am broadcasting on all AM frequencies. I am a survivor living in New York City. I am living day by day, searching for others. I will be at the South Street Sea Port Every Day at midday when the sun is highest in the sky.” And then it repeats. And underneath the Will Smith title credit is the tagline “The Last Man on Earth is Not Alone.”
Check out the full poster after the jump.

Warner Bros has released a few new photos (most uneventful) from the upcoming adaptation of I Am Legend starring Will Smith (movie trailer).
Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world. For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. But he is not alone. Mutant victims of the plague-The Infected-lurk in the shadows…watching Neville’s every move…waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind’s last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But he knows he is outnumbered…and quickly running out of time.
I’m really looking forward to this flick, which hits theaters in December. Thanks to BloodyDisgusting and kino-govno for the photos.

I Am Legend screenwriter Mark Protosevich is already talking about a potential sequel. The LA Times writes:
“There is no word yet on how Protosevich plans to extend the story of lone military scientist Robert Neville’s struggle to survive against a mutant populace. But it’s a good bet that he’s setting it at least 10 years in the future.”
Of course, a sequel all depends on the box office success of the first film. I Am Legend is a modern day adaptation of the classic 1954 science fiction novel by Richard Matheson. Will Smith stars as Robert Neville, a former scientist who is the last uninfected human in Manhattan, if not the world. Warner Bros has been developing the project since 1994. At one point Ridley Scott was attached to direct while Arnold Schwarzenegger was in talks to star. I Am Legend hits theaters on December 14, 2007.
Did You Know: Warner Bros spent over $5 million on just one of the scenes in I Am Legend. According to IGN, the scene was shot on location over the course of six nights in January, with the cooperation of 14 government agencies including The National Guard, the Coast Guard, and the Department of Defense, a crew of 250, and a cast of 1,000 extras. A massive lighting system was rigged up along the bridge and the waterfront to illuminate the nighttime set. The film will become the biggest movie to ever be filmed from start to finish in New York City. But nobody said shooting in the Big Apple was cheap. The film’s projected budget is $150+ million. You can read more about the sequence on IGN.
