Public Enemies - What Did You Think?
The visual effects branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures has narrowed down the films of 2008 to just seven selections. These seven films will compete in a “bake off” on January 15th to narrow the list to just three selections — the nominees for Best Achievement in Visual Effects. Here is the lost of the final seven:

- The Dark Knight
- Hellboy II: The Golden Army
- Iron Man
- Journey to the Center of the Earth
- The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Cool Stuff: Hot Toys’ Hellboy 12 Inch Collectible Figure

Hot Toys has announced their 12 Inch Hellboy collectible figure. The figure perfectly captures the likeness of actor Ron Pearlman as Hellboy.
Hot Toys developed muscle figure body with over 28 points of articulation featuring caved occult symbol on Hellboy’s right shoulder. Bendable tail with wire inside. “Right arm doom” with bendable fingers.

Hellboy 2: Third Movie Trailer and Animated Prologue

Universal has released a third and final movie trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Like the recent television spot, the new trailer starts off with the origin story from the first film, before showing off all the cool creatues and baddies in the new film. They have also released the animated prologue which opens the film on Apple.com. As always, tell me what you think in the comments below!

Cool Stuff: Limited Edition Hellboy Adidas Sneakers

Adidas is releasing two pairs of limited edition Hellboy sneakers to coincide with the release of the Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
“Adidas Originals created a jaw-dropping statement with the Stan Mid - Hellboy in cooperation with Dark Horse Comics & Mike Mignola. The black shoe has the image of Hellboy printed on its side in red and extra details on the inner and outer sole, like a collection of three extra footbeds, plus lace jewels, a mini-comic and unique tongue branding.”
“The Forum Mid-Golden Army takes the court standard and mixes the appropriate trio of gold, black and white with Hellboy lettering across the Velcro strap, with an image of Ron Perlman as the titular demonic anti-hero on the outsole and footbed.”
Both the Forum Mid-Golden Army and the Stan Mid-Hellboy come in a specially designed shoe box and different tissue wrappings, making them true collector pieces. The shoes will both be released worldwide in a limited edition. A total of 5,000 pairs of the Forum Mid-Golden Army will be sold in adidas Originals stores and selected partner stores. 1,000 pairs only of Stan Mid-Hellboy will be available exclusively in adidas Originals stores. Retail prices will be $100 for the Forum Mid-Golden Army and $150 for the Stan Mid-Hellboy.

I’m surprised that the U.S. character banners don’t feature any of the more visually interesting characters introduced in this new film, sticking to the three main leads: Hellboy, Liz and Abe Sapien. Guillermo del Toro says that if Hellboy II: The Golden Army is successful enough to warrant a sequel, he has a plan for a third Hellboy film, and that’s it.
“If there was ever a third one, I would really make sure that we at least sign a contract that there is no more,” del Toro told SciFi. “No prequels and no sequels: nothing. If that happens, then there is a third one we have planned, and the seeds are planted in this film.”
Guillermo’s plan for a third film would involve Hellboy facing off against twenty-first century Nazis.
“It’s not this group of freakies that hide in the sewers, but people that are incredibly rich.”
Looks like del Toro is taking a cue from the original Indiana Jones trilogy. Jones also faces off against the evil Nazis in his first and third adventures. And much like The Golden Army, Temple of Doom took the series in a supernatural direction. But just remember, Lucas and Spielberg also once insisted that Indiana Jones 3 would be the Last Crusade, and here we are years later going to the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull…
