During her life, Elizabeth Taylor was known as much for her offscreen exploits as she was for her onscreen work, and public interest in her personal life hasn’t waned now that she’s passed. Last year, Lifetime brought us the tawdry, Lindsay Lohan-starring version of the Taylor story: Liz & Dick. This year, the BBC is preparing its own take titled Burton & Taylor, with the considerably more talented Helena Bonham Carter stepping into the lead role. Dominic West will play her erstwhile husband and lover. Hit the jump for more.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida (and soon Hollywood, CA) has upped the ante for what a movie themed theme park can be and they’re not stopping there. According to reports, actors from the Harry Potter franchise have been asked to reprise their roles from the films to shoot new footage for the currently under construction Wizarding World expansion in Florida.

Not to be outdone, Walt Disney World has begun work on Avatar Land, based on the James Cameron film. Not only did some blueprints leak in the last few weeks, now an image has surfaced showing the filmmaker working with Disney Imagineers. Check out info on both these theme part bits below. The year-end prestige film crush is just beginning, and one of the crown jewels from this year’s crop looks to be Tom Hooper‘s Les Misérables. Between the source material and the on- and off-camera talent, it’s totally clear why Universal believes the musical has the potential to be a massive critical and commercial hit, and the trailers so far have lived up to those lofty expectations.

As part of the promotional push, Les Misérables has landed a lush Annie Leibovitz-photographed spread in Vogue. While we’ve seen a teaser and extended production trailer for Tom Hooper‘s new adaptation of Les Miserables, this UK trailer is the fullest, most traditional look at the film to date.

It has a lot of footage we haven’t previously seen, and introduces most of the primary cast, including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Eddie Redmayne. We get to hear almost all of them in song, which is a first for some, and see a good bit of the grand scope of Hooper’s take on the revolutionary France, as originally told by Victor Hugo. There are a handful of classic tales that seem to get reinterpreted for the screen every few years, and among them is Charles DickensGreat Expectations. The most recent theatrical version you probably recall is Alfonso Cuarón’s 1998 modernized version featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Bancroft, and Ethan Hawke, and since then there have been at least two other adaptations for TV.

Now the latest director to tackle the Victorian coming-of-age tale is Mike Newell, who brings the story back to its original 19th century setting. Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) stars as Pip, a poor orphan boy whose life takes an unexpected twist when a mysterious benefactor arranges for him to become a gentleman. Up-and-comer Holliday Grainger stars as the unattainable object of his affections, Estella, while Helena Bonham Carter tackles the iconic role of spiteful shut-in Miss Havisham. Watch the first international trailer after the jump.

Here at last is the trailer for Dark Shadows, the most recent of many pairings between director Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. The actor has wanted to revive the ’60s supernatural soap opera Dark Shadows for years, and he and Burton, after much planning, finally shot the movie last year. One of many questions about the project has been concerned with whether something that has come across like a bit of an obsession for Depp can translate into a movie that people want to see now.

The trailer premiered on Warner Bros.-owned The Ellen Degeneres Show today — appropriate, I suppose, for a film that adapts a soap opera — and we’ve got it below.

For The Lone Ranger, Disney is working with tactics that are almost exactly opposite to what Warner Bros. did with its own new Johnny Depp vehicle, Dark Shadows.
