This morning Megan Fox, Ed Helms, and Jessica Alba announced the nominations for the 2013 Golden Globes. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the event, is famous for nominating films and performances simply based on their star factor — if there’s an actor that members of the HFPA want to hang out with, they’re sure to get a nomination.
But the HFPA is great at putting on a show, and so the Golden Globes generate a lot of attention every year. And, as the NY Times points out, with the Globes nominations coming just days before Oscar nomination voting starts, there’s a possibility that nominations here could affect Oscar voting. The Best Picture nomination set includes what is already becoming a standard set of awards favorites, such as Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, and Zero Dark Thirty, but there are also nominations for Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and Django Unchained. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen picked up a few nominations, actually, which was one of the big surprises.
The Golden Globes will air on January 13, 2013, hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. The full nomination list is below. Read More »

If you need proof that the old movie star system doesn’t really exist any longer, here’s a trailer for Fireflies in the Garden, aka the ‘lost’ Julia Roberts movie. The film was shot in 2007 and hit festivals in 2008, and is only not getting a release date. Then again, Fireflies in the Garden is only kind of a Julia Roberts movie — it’s a family drama in which Roberts and Willem Dafoe are parents of a boy who grows up to become a bearded, very serious Ryan Reynolds. You’d think, however, that even with Roberts playing a supporting role — and a very important one at that — the film would have seen some release based on the fact of her appearance alone.
The film also stars Hayden Panettiere, Emily Watson and Carrie-Anne Moss, and if you’re wondering what a movie with all those recognizable people has been doing sitting on the shelf for almost four years, you’re not alone. Check out the trailer below and see if you can figure out why this one has been unseen in the States for all this time. Read More »
Whether or not you’ve read American Psycho, The Rules of Attraction or Less Than Zero, the name Bret Easton Ellis conjures up a pretty specific set of themes: some combination of twisted social commentary, biting humor and gratuitous violence. And though Ellis has adapted one of own his books to a screenplay, he’s just written his first adaptation of a book that’s not his. That book is Michael Hornburg’s novel Downers Grove which is about a suburban high school where one senior dies a horrible death at the end of each year. Nelson McCormick, best known for the recent remakes of Prom Night and The Stepfather, is attached to direct and it’s set to star Hayden Panettiere (Heroes, Scre4m) and Nikki Reed (Thirteen, Twilight) in addition to Rebecca De Mornay. The whole package is currently being shopped at the America Film Market. Read more after the jump. Read More »
Couple new Scream 4 updates for you. I’m going to throw both of them after the break, because one, a statement from Hayden Panettiere about the rumor that she was unhappy with script changes, comes in the form of a hefty quote. And the other is a set of images of the town of Woodsboro. While they may be part of the first few minutes of the film and are likely to be represented in eventual trailers, some might consider them vaguely spoilerish. Read More »
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Lionsgate has released an international movie trailer for the upcoming 3D computer animated movie Alpha & Omega. Directed by Anthony Bell and Ben Gluck, the family adventure comedy tells the story of two mismatched young wolves are thrown together by circumstance. The voice cast includes Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere, Christina Ricci, Dennis Hopper, Danny Glover, and Vicki Lewis. The movie looks like a subpar effort even compared to DreamWorks films, and the storyline seems rather generic. Watch the trailer now embedded after the jump. Last week there was news about the casting for Scream 4 that suggested Twilight‘s Ashley Greene, Lake Bell, Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin were all being considered for roles in Wes Craven‘s Scream 4. Yesterday it was reported by the studio that Emma Roberts had been cast in the new lead role, leading many to wonder if Greene (or the others) were out of the film entirely.
We now have word, thanks to Variety, that Hayden Panettiere (best known as the Cheerleader from Heroes) and Rory Culkin (Signs, Mean Creek) have also been confirmed as officially cast in the horror sequel, the first part of a new trilogy written by screenwriter Kevin Williamson.

Last week there was news about the casting for Scream 4 that suggested Twilight‘s Ashley Greene could end up playing one of the lead roles in the sequel — a part more or less equivalent to Neve Campbell‘s in the original film. Now it looks like Emma Roberts is going to have that role. So is Greene out of the film entirely? Read More »
LionsGate isn’t really the studio most people think of for cutting edge 3D CGI animation. In fact, despite having a film or two in release, I don’t ever think of LionsGate with respect to animation, at all. But they’re trying. The latest attempt to capture the hearts and minds of audiences is Alpha and Omega, a story of two wolves trying to rejoin their pack. Check out the trailer after the break. Read More »
