We just saw a new poster for The Grand Budapest Hotel, from Wes Anderson, and that image featured portraits of the individuals in the huge ensemble cast. Now there’s a new trailer, and it is all about introducing the characters played by the whole bunch.

Along the way, we get a better outline of how the film fits together, starting from the point where F. Murray Abraham, seemingly as an older version of the young Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori), narrates his story to the young writer played by Jude Law. There’s so much here: Harvey Keitel’s prison tattoos, Jeff Goldblum channeling J.K. Simmons’ character from Burn After Reading, and Tilda Swinton swaddled in old-age makeup, for starters.

It looks like a screwy comedy, with everyone having a hell of a time, but there are shadows of more serious events here, too. And, for everything that’s in this trailer, it doesn’t seem to give too much away. Read More »

Any “most anticipated of 2014″ lists we run here will likely feature Wes Anderson‘s The Grand Budapest Hotel, which opens in March of next year. Anticipation comes not just based on the fact of a new Anderson movie, but the ensemble cast that always comes with such an endeavor.

This time, it’s Ralph Fiennes, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, and Saoirse Ronan, for starters, who will wear the meticulously designed, Anderson-approved costumes. You can see them all in a new poster below, in advance of a new trailer tomorrow (Thursday, Dec 19). Read More »

We’ve been waiting for The Congress, the new film from Waltz With Bashir director Ari Folman, for what feels like a very long time. (In reality, only since 2009.) The film is loosely based upon a story by science fiction grandmaster Stanislaw Lem, but has been adapted to very specifically suit cinema.

The live-action/animated hybrid features Robin Wright as an actress — actually as Robin Wright — whose career is being pronounced dead. And so she sells her likeness to a firm that uses her as a sample source. Wright playing a version of herself is already fairly strange, but then there are the ways that filmmakers use her likeness, which are really out there.

We’ve seen glimpses of the film’s animation before, but what we see here is far beyond what we’ve had a look at in the past. The animation is beautiful, but it’s the combination of everything that makes this look like one of the most visually commanding movies of the year. Will the script be as compelling? Get a taste in the trailer below. Read More »

Wes Anderson is shooting his new film, Grand Budapest Hotel, right now, with Ralph Fiennes and Saoirse Ronan in the lead roles. Fiennes plays the concierge of the titular hotel, and the cast also includes Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, Jeff Goldblum, F. Murray Abraham, Jude Law, and Mathieu Amalric.

Some set pics and videos hit the web last night, showing that the hotel of the title is grand, indeed, as are some of the costumes worn by the cast. Jeff Goldblum’s facial hair is no small matter, either. Check them all out below.

Update: At the request of Fox, we’ve pulled the images.

It’s been a fine year for Wes Anderson, as his film Moonrise Kingdom did well commercially, and has landed on many year-end top ten lists, and stands as a big awards contender. As the promotion for Moonrise Kingdom winds down, Anderson is looking forward to his “Euro movie” The Grand Budapest Hotel, which stars Ralph Fiennes as the composed concierge of the titular hotel, and also features Anderson regulars such as Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, and Jason Schwartzman.

While the film lost Johnny Depp as a lead (replaced by Fiennes), there have been rumors that some of the Moonrise Kingdom supporting cast that wasn’t previously part of Anderson’s informal stock company would take part in the next picture. Now Anderson has confirmed several of them, and revealed the participation of a few other actors, such as Quantum of Solace villain Mathieu Amalric. Read More »

In early May, Focus Features bought distribution rights to the new Wes Anderson film, Moonrise Kingdom, and issued an announcement of the full cast along with a plot description.

Or: almost the full cast. One actor who has been rumored for the film for some time is Harvey Keitel, but he was not among the announced cast list. Now he has been confirmed as being part of the movie. Along with that news, we’ve got the first images of some of the film’s sets, and of Edward Norton in costume (above) as a boy scout leader and Bill Murray being Bill Murray. That’s all after the break. Read More »

Roadside Attractions has released a new trailer for The Last Godfather, directed by and starring South Korean comedian Shim Hyung Rae. The film features Harvey Keitel as a mob boss who decides to retire and pass on the torch to his illegitimate son Younggu (Shim), a bumbling idiot he fathered while hiding out in Korea. Keitel’s character asks his men to prepare Younggu for the new role, and slapsticky hijinks ensue. Blake Clark, Jason Mewes and Jocelin Donahue also star. Watch the trailer after the jump.
