Dracula is looking like the next target of attacks on multiple fronts. We just heard that Dracula Year Zero is back from the dead, and the film Harker, which recasts the Bram Stoker character as a member of Scotland Yard, is gearing up. Briefly: I don’t know what Russell Crowe‘s agent is doing, but it is working. Casting news and rumors have been thick of late for the actor. Though he said the report of MGM looking at him for RoboCop was untrue, there is still the matter of Crowe being in talks for Darren Aronofsky’s Noah and Akiva Goldsman’s adaptation of the Mark Helperin novel Winter’s Tale. He’s also playing Inspector Javert in Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables.

On Friday there was word that Orphan and Unknown director Jaume Collet-Serra would be developing a new Dracula film with Leonardo DiCaprio’s company Appian Way. The basis is a spec script by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy called Bram Stoker’s Dracula Project. Or, it was using that name. Now the film is going under the name Harker, and new details reveal it to be what sounds like an action-oriented take on the old story. Read More »
