With spring creeping up on us, a whole bunch of images have just been revealed for two very different high-profile releases. Bryan Singer‘s Jack the Giant Slayer is a CG-heavy fantasy epic based on the classic fairy tale, while Derek Cianfrance‘s The Place Beyond the Pines takes an atypical approach to the crime thriller genre.
In addition, we have a new still for Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger, which isn’t due out until summer but should be revealing a bit of new footage during this weekend’s Super Bowl. Check out all the pictures after the jump.

In an age of common air travel, telecommunications, and the World Wide Web, North Korea may be the only country that remains truly isolated from the rest of the globe. While it is possible to visit, it’s notoriously difficult to explore the land. Foreigners are carefully monitored by translators, guides, and guards. But thanks to a deal with New Regency and Gore Verbinski, we may soon be getting a inside look at the secretive nation.
The studio has just acquired the rights to Pyongyang, Guy Delisle‘s graphic novel based on his experiences in the DPRK capital. Verbinski is set to direct, as well as produce through his Blind Wink banner. The script comes from Steve Conrad (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), and is said to be dakly comedic in tone. More details after the jump.

Disney has released a new trailer for Disney’s The Lone Ranger. Gore Verbinski directs Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the Ranger in a version of the classic American western storyline that puts Tonto as the real mastermind of the pair. This footage isn’t much, but it gives up a bit more of Tonto and the Ranger than did the teaser, as it shows Depp’s enigmatic character talking Hammer into his mask. Read More »

While it’s understandable that some diehard fans think the very idea of another Star Wars trilogy is unforgivable sacrilege, we’re more inclined to think it could be an unexpected blessing. Disney’s got their hands on one of the richest mythologies in pop culture, and enough clout that it can book some serious talent to do it justice. So with that in mind, we’ve put together a list of ten filmmakers we’d love to see explore a galaxy far, far away — and five we’d rather stayed here on Earth. Hit the jump to read.

Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Yesterday we saw some new official photos from Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger, which stars Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer as Tonto and the Ranger, respectively. Now we’ve got a couple more new photos along with a strange and mysterious teaser poster. There are two big batches of official images to pass along this afternoon. One is for Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger, and while the pics are technically new, they don’t show off much we haven’t seen. That is, Johnny Depp‘s Tonto looks intense and more than a bit weird; Armie Hammer looks heroic and idealistic, and their world is one well-known to followers of classic Westerns.
The other batch, from the comedy Movie 43, is a bit more unpredictable. The film is a comedy anthology, with 25 shorts from almost a dozen directors: Patrik Forsberg, Peter Farrelly, Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk and Brett Ratner. The cast includes Kate Winslet, Anna Faris, Halle Berry, Emma Stone, Terrence Howard, Jason Sudaekis, and Johnny Knoxville. The PR line on the film is that it is “not for the faint of heart,” which is fairly enticing. Some of the images below give soft clues about what to expect. Read More »
After over four months of filming and one terrible tragedy, Gore Verbinski‘s big budget Johnny Depp Disney movie The Lone Ranger finished production this week. That work is leading up to a July 3, 2013 release date. Even after cuts were made to the film’s massive budget, rumors have the film costing upwards of $250 million but the first teaser trailer didn’t quite provide a tangable idea of where all that money was going. Now we have a clue.
Several photos from the final week of filming have arrived online and they show an incredibly massive stunt featuring Johnny Depp as Tonto, his stunt double and what appears to be a train flying through the air. Be warned that, while there’s no context surrounding these photos, odds are they contain spoilers. Check out the images after the jump.
