Seth Rogen tells Collider that despite internet rumors, he has not yet been contacted about being part of Ghostbusters 3. Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are currently working on the screenplay. The writing duo last worked on Year One, a film directed by Harold Ramis, an original Ghostbuster who also played Rogen’s father in Knocked Up. See the connection? Anyways, Rogen says he probably wouldn’t be part of a third Ghostbusters film, because, well, it sounds like the worst idea ever.
“It’s hard to imagine that would be good, isn’t it?” asks Rogen. “I mean just as a movie fan I am the first guy to be skeptical of that. It [...]

Bill Murray made a surprise appearance during a secret screening of City of Ember at Fantastic Fest. Now I’m kicking myself for having to leave early to Los Angeles to cover the big Disney even. Oh well. Murray was asked about Ghostbusters 3. For those who have been in a cave for the last month, The Office’s Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg are writing a script which will introduce a new generation of Ghostbusters. We’ve heard Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis talk about the possible sequel, but to my knowlege, this is the first time Bill Murray has commented publicly. Here is what Murray had to say:
“I think [...]

Harold Ramis sent a casual email to the Chicago Tribune over the weekend per confirmation of Ghostbusters 3. He clarified that Bill Murray, who has expressed much hesitation about a second sequel in the past—even preferring to do voice work on a once proposed animated sequel—is game…
“yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg.  judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill [...]

UPDATE: The trades are reporting that Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (co-exec producers/writers on NBC’s The Office) have officially been hired by Columbia Pictures/Sony to pen the script for Ghostbusters 3. The script will reportedly bring together the original cast including Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, Slimer?, though none of the actors have officially signed to reprise their roles. The Hollywood Reporter says that Ghostbusters I and II director Ivan Reitman is “aware and involved” in the project’s development. The “next-gen” storyline has also been confirmed, though no specifics were offered. Read below for further info on this aspect.
The general impression based on years of tentative [...]

In a recent interview with EOnline, Dan Aykroyd was asked about the status of Ghostbusters 3. Aykroyd responded:
Well, y’know, two sharp young writers are purported to be writing the sequel, the third movie now. If I could interest Seth [Rogen] and Judd [Apatow] to be part of it, that would be an absolute dream.
Given Aykroyd’s relationship with the franchise, it’s nearly impossible that he wouldn’t know for certain exactly what is going on with the script, so it’s quite plausible that a script is currently in the works as he says. As for the involvement of Rogen and Apatow, capitalizing on the current popularity of the Apatow crew seems [...]

Don’t believe those Ghostbuster rumors… A new live-action Ghostbusters film is not in the works. A rumor has been circulating the interwebs that Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson had signed on to return for a third film where they would hand off the Ghostbusting duties to the Judd Apatow crew of Seth Rogen, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and Romany Malco. I’ll admit, that it doesnt sound like a bad idea, at least in best case scenario terms, but it’s completely untrue.
The Ghostbuster 3 rumors began at WonderCon 2008, where an advertisement in the program promised a big Ghostbusters related announcement in San Diego. The announcement never [...]

While watching There Will Be Blood, I found that I was drawing thematic, musical and enigmatic comparisons to Jim Jarmusch’s American study Dead Man. It would make for an interesting essay. Jarmusch’s films are always unpredictable meditations and the director’s next movie, The Limits of Control, due in 2009, doesn’t look to break the mold. Bill Murray has signed on to star, marking his third film with the New York visionary, after Coffee and Cigarettes and Broken Flowers, which I found to be so-so efforts from both talents. Actress Tilda Swinton, hot off Michael Clayton and a Broken Flowers co-star, is also on board alongside Gael Garcia Bernal (The Science [...]

Yesterday we told you that Vivendi Games was making a Ghostbusters video game for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Now a video with demo footage from the game in development has shown up online. Check it out after the jump along with a series of new screenshots. As always click on the images to enlarge. Looks like they are using some sequences from the films for the demo. I can’t wait to wrangle up some ghosts. Too bad the first game won’t be released on the Wii, because it would have been fun to play using the Wiimote.

Vivendi Games has made a deal with Sony Pictures to rape your childhood and turn Ghostbusters into a video game. Vivendi, who is eyeing a potential franchise, plans to release the game in fall 2008. The good news is that all four original cast members, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis, have signed on to give their voice and likeness for the game. William Atherton, Brian Doyle Murray and Annie Potts are also on board.
The best part is that Ghostbusters screenwriters Aykroyd & Ramis are also signed on to write the game’s story, which will take place a new ghoul invasion of New York City in the [...]
