The /Filmcast: After Dark is a recording of what happens right after The /Filmcast is over, when the kids have gone to bed and the guys feel free to speak whatever is on their minds. In other words, it’s the leftover and disorganized ramblings, mindfarts, and brain diarrhea from The /Filmcast, all in one convenient audio file. In this episode, Dave, Devindra, and Adam lavish love on their favorite character actors, plus describe some of their favorite deleted film scenes that will never see the light of day.

Fox has given the new JJ Abrams show Fringe a full order of 22-episodes, which is no surprise considering the ratings. This is the first new series on the big four networks to get a full season commitment. I haven’t had a chance to watch the show since getting back from my 28 day trip, but the pilot episode was just a little bt underwelming. I plan on sticking with it to mid-season, and see if the story really picks up steam.

The new Steven Speilberg-produced Diablo Cody-scripted Showtime series United States of Tara will premiere at 10pm on January 18th 2009. The series will follow the final season premiere of the L Word, and lead into the second season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl. The series stars Toni Collette as a mother with multiple personality disorder. The comedy comes with how the different family members and friends deal with her different personalities. I’ve read the script for the pilot episode, which was strong. It will all hinge on how convincing Collette is as the various different personalities.

Reader Forum: The Fringe Premiere

So after much ballyhoo, J.J. Abrams’s Fringe premiered last night on Fox. I’m curious to know how you guys felt about the pilot episode, and if this is a show you’d like to see covered on Slashfilm in the future. The ratings are in—roughly 9 million viewers—and while it’s not necessarily a homerun off the bat, word of mouth will play a large factor in the proceeding weeks. Do you expect the show to reach the heights of The X-Files in its prime? Did the 90-minute $10 million premiere grab you?

The /Filmcast: After Dark - Ep. 15 (GUEST: Myles McNutt)

In this episode, Dave, Devindra, and Adam chat with Myles McNutt about the new Fall TV season, remember everyone’s favorite movie trailer voice actor, Don LaFontaine, and get into a heated debate over The Fountain.

TV: JJ Abrams’ Fringe Trailer

Fringe

A promotional trailer for the new JJ Abrams‘ Fox series Fringe has hit the interwebs. The new series is set to premiere this fall on Tuesday Nights at 9:00pm after House. What is with Abrams obsession with airplane tragedies? This show has gotten a lot of criticism for being n X-Files knock off, but this new trailer shows something deeper than that. Check it out below and tell me what you think in the comments.

Update: We have added the full length trailer below found via AICN.

Original Teaser Trailer:

From J.J. Abrams (”Lost”), Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the team behind “Star Trek,” “Mission: Impossible III” and “Alias,” comes a new drama that will thrill, terrify and explore the blurring line between science fiction and reality. When an international flight lands at Boston’s Logan Airport and the passengers and crew have all died grisly deaths, FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham (newcomer Anna Torv) is called in to investigate. After her partner, Special Agent John Scott (Mark Valley, “Boston Legal”), is nearly killed during the investigation, a desperate Olivia searches frantically for someone to help, leading her to DR. Walter Bishop (John Noble, “Lord of the Rings”), our generation’s Einstein. There’s only one catch: he’s been institutionalized for the last 20 years, and the only way to question him requires pulling his estranged son Pter (Joshua Jackson, “Dawson’s Creek”) in to help. When Olivia’s investigation leads her to manipulative corporate executive Nina Sharp (Blair Brown, “Altered States”), our unlikely trio along with fellow FBI Agents Phillip Broyles (Lance Reddick, “The Wire”), Charlie Francis (Kirk Acevedo, “Oz”) and Astrid Farnsworth (Jasika Nicole, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) will discover that what happened on Flight 627 is only a small piece of a larger, more shocking truth.

Update: We’ve added new video clips from both Fringe and Dollhouse.

I’ve decided to consolidate a bunch of tv updates down to one posting, because, after-all this is still a movie blog.

LOST

The writers strike caused LOST to lose two hours of it’s planned fourth season. The show’s producers have announced that they will reclaim those hours in the show’s fifth and six season. That means that the finial two seasons of the hit show will now be 17 episodes in length instead of the planned 16 episode arcs. [THR]

Spaced

Nikki Finke is reporting that the American remake of Edgar Wright’s Spaced is a no-go. This should satisfy fans of the original British fanboy series starring Simon Pegg. For those of you who have never had a chance to watch the original Spaced, it finally comes to DVD in the states on July 22nd featuring new Exclusive Commentary By Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, Bill Hader, Matt Stone, Patton Oswalt and Diablo Cody.

JJ Abrams

Fox has picked up JJ Abrams’s Fringe, which follows a young female FBI agent who tackle cases involving unexplained medical and scientific phenomena. Abrams’ Bad Robot produced a two-hour pilot which was written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek) and directed by Alex Graves (Journeyman). The series’ cast includes Anna Torv, Mark Valley and Joshua Jackson. [Variety]

Heroes

And finally, NBC has started running a promo to promote Heroes Season 3. Watch it below.
