Sony is reorganizing its release calendar, and that means a few big titles are getting shifted around. First off, The Dark Tower has been postponed from February 2017 to summer 2017, as we reported earlier today… and it’s taking over Jumanji‘s slot, which means Jumanji is now getting pushed to Christmas 2017.
Meanwhile, Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver has gone from being a spring movie to being a summer movie, and The Equalizer 2 — the first sequel of Denzel Washington’s entire career — is getting delayed one year to fall 2018. Get full details on the Jumanji release date and more below. Read More »
Just a few weeks ago, the developing Flatliners remake gained an interesting name with Kiefer Sutherland joining the cast. What’s interesting about the addition of Sutherland to the cast is that he starred in the original 1990 cult favorite thriller, and his involvement in the new take on the story opened up the possibility of this being more of a sequel instead of a true remake. Now we seem to have confirmation of as much from Kiefer Sutherland himself. Find out what the actor had to say about the Flatliners sequel after the jump. Read More »

Is there anyone out there demanding a Flatliners remake? Probably not. The original 1990 film is fine, a perfectly adequate supernatural thriller that goes down easy enough and then vanishes from the brain without leaving a last impression. In a weird way, this actually makes it the ideal movie for the remake treatment – there is no reason to film new versions of beloved, classic movies when there are plenty of great concepts attached to forgettable movies floating around, awaiting resurrection.
The last we heard from Flatliners, the delightful Ellen Page was attached to lead the film. Now, she has her first co-star in the form of Diego Luna, the talented Mexican actor known for his work in films like Milk, Elysium, The Terminal, and Y Tu Mamá También. Oh yeah, he’s also in some upcoming movie called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Ellen Page may be this generation’s Julia Roberts. The Freeheld star could lead a remake of Roberts’ 1990 sci-fi thriller Flatliners, about a group of medical students who experiment with near-death experiences. (Because what could possibly go wrong?) Niels Arden Oplev, of the Swedish The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo adaptation, is directing.

Briefly: Here’s one to test your devotion to early ’90s movies and remakes thereof. Joel Schumacher‘s medical/supernatural thriller Flatliners is the latest film in line for a remake, and Ben Ripley, who wrote Source Code, has been hired to write it.
