Pets

The folks that created the Minions are preparing to bring you another adventure involving adorable animated critters. Louis C.K., Kevin Hart, and Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) have joined the voice cast of an untitled Universal Studios / Illumination Entertainment picture about pets in New York City.

At the helm are Chris Renaud, who co-directed both Despicable Me movies, and Yarrow Cheney, who co-directed the adorable Minion mini-movie “Puppy.” Seriously, if you still haven’t seen that short, do so. It’s the cutest thing I saw all last year. Hit the jump for more details on their new project.

After nine seasons of The Office, it’s all but impossible to picture anyone but John Krasinski affecting Jim Halpert’s smug mug, or anyone other than Brian Baumgartner sounding out Kevin Malone’s slow drawl. But as star Rainn Wilson reminded the world when he posted the audition sign-in sheet last spring, those choices weren’t always totally obvious.

A recently surfaced featurette shows some of the actors who didn’t make the cut during the audition process, specifically Seth Rogen for the part of Dwight, Bob Odenkirk for Michael, Eric Stonestreet for Kevin, Kathryn Hahn for Pam, and John Cho and Adam Scott for Jim. Check it out after the jump.

This morning Megan Fox, Ed Helms, and Jessica Alba announced the nominations for the 2013 Golden Globes. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the event, is famous for nominating films and performances simply based on their star factor — if there’s an actor that members of the HFPA want to hang out with, they’re sure to get a nomination.

But the HFPA is great at putting on a show, and so the Golden Globes generate a lot of attention every year. And, as the NY Times points out, with the Globes nominations coming just days before Oscar nomination voting starts, there’s a possibility that nominations here could affect Oscar voting. The Best Picture nomination set includes what is already becoming a standard set of awards favorites, such as Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, and Zero Dark Thirty, but there are also nominations for Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and Django Unchained. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen picked up a few nominations, actually, which was one of  the big surprises.

The Golden Globes will air on January 13, 2013, hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. The full nomination list is below. Read More »

Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet has signed up to play silent film star Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle in an HBO biopic titled The Day the Laughter Stopped. Arbuckle was one of the most popular, most successful actors of his time, but his career fell apart after he was accused of raping and murdering actress Virginia Rappe. Although he was eventually acquitted, he never completely recovered. He enjoyed only a very brief comeback before he died of a heart attack in 1933 at the age of 46.

Barry Levinson is set to direct the film from a script penned by John Adams screenwriter Kirk Ellis. The project is apparently something of a dream come true for Stonestreet, who’s been looking for a potential Arbuckle project since the late ’90s. [Vulture]

After the jump, the Old Spice guy gets a new gig, ABC picks up a split-personality drama, and USA announces return dates for some of its most popular shows.
