Emojimovie: Express Yourself

Sometime last year, Sony announced plans to make The Emoji Movie, which is exactly what it sounds like — an entire feature film about the bubbly little faces that live in your phone. It was described in rough terms as “Wreck-It Ralph meets Inside Out,” which, despite the fact that we really like both of those movies, didn’t do much to make us feel better about The Emoji Movie. But hey, we’ve been wrong before. Sometimes terrible-on-paper ideas yield incredible movies. Maybe, just maybe, The Emoji Movie is one of those times.

… Or, you know, maybe not. It seems like a bad sign that the first Emoji Movie trailer does not seem all that excited about The Emoji Movie. I guess the marketing team thought they were being ironic, but really all I see is a reflection of my own lack of interest in this film. Watch the first The Emoji Movie trailer below.  Read More »

Emojimovie: Express Yourself

Over the summer Sony Pictures Animation enlisted T.J. Miller to help turn those tiny little smileys in your phone into a big-screen feature. Today they’ve rounded up two more comedians to pitch in. Ilana Glazer and James Corden have joined the clunkily titled Emojimovie: Express Yourself, about a trio of emojis on an “app-venture” to save their world. Learn more about their characters, and see them all in an Emojimovie first look image, below. Read More »

Emojimovie

Remember the time you were scrolling through your iPhone keyboard, looking for the perfect wink to punctuate a flirty text, and you got to thinking about how you’d definitely pay good money to watch an entire feature-length film about those tiny yellow faces? No? Well, you’re getting one anyway. Sony Pictures Animation is currently in the process of putting together Emojimovie: Express Yourself, and as of this week they have a leading man. If you’ve ever wondered what a smiley face would sound like, the answer, at least in this movie, is T.J. Miller.

Just when you think Hollywood has exhausted all possible movies, TV shows, video games, toys, and board games to turn into more movies and TV shows, something like this happens.

Sony Pictures Animation has just won a bidding war against two other studios for an animated movie pitch involving Emoji. Yes, the little pictures that people send back and forth via phones and various social media channels will soon be the subject of a major motion picture. Sadly, today is not April 1st.
