Stock in Tron — elevated in value over the years thanks to the forgiving nature of nostalgia — took a dive after the release of Tron: Legacy. But Disney isn’t giving up on the property, and is moving full speed ahead with an animated series that explores the Grid, aka the digital world at the core of the two films. A good idea, as animation could turn out to be the ideal medium in which to explore the hidden corners of the Grid.

“The first casualty of war is innocence. Oops, the truth. I meant the first casualty of war is always the truth.”

Here’s the first trailer for Renny Harlin‘s 5 Days of War, which covers people trying to cover the war that broke out between Russia and Georgia in 2008. Serious topics aren’t exactly in the director’s wheelhouse; he’s best known for sequels (Die Hard 2, Nightmare on Elm St. 4) and the occasionally effective action movie (The Long Kiss Goodnight, Cliffhanger).

So I’ve been interested to see what comes of this slightly more serious project since it was announced in 2009. Harlin’s facility with action is certainly on display in this trailer, and I can’t really tell whether or not to have any expectations beyond that. Check it out below and make your own call. How does Sebastian Gutierrez keep getting these actors to appear in his films? So far just about all of his work has been laden with impressively star-studded casts, but nothing he’s produced has even come close to finding any sort of success at the box office — or with critics, for that matter. I guess that’s of no consequence for his next effort though, since the film is being released exclusively on the Internet. For free.

That film is Girl Walks Into a Bar, and it brings together an ensemble cast including Carla Gugino, Zachary Quinto, Josh Hartnett, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Robert Forster, Alexis Bledel and many more. That roster of actors is incentive enough to check out the film. That you won’t have to pay to do so is the cherry on top. Learn more about the film and check out the trailer after the break. ‘Elektra Luxx’ Trailer and Release Date

The sex comedy Elektra Luxx premiered almost a year ago at South by Southwest but, until now, we weren’t sure when we’d get to see it. Directed by Sebastian Gutierrez, who wrote Snakes on a Plane, it stars Carla Gugino as a pregnant ex-porn star turned sex education teacher who gets pushed back into things when an old friend, played by Marley Shelton, approaches her with a proposition. The film made Peter’s list of Best Movies of 2010 You’ve Never Heard of and now, we have a release date and full trailer for the film. Elextra Luxx, which also stars Timothy Olyphant, Adrianne Palicki, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Malin Akerman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and others will be released March 11. Check out the trailer and official plot description after the jump. Read More »

We wrote a couple months ago about Renny Harlin‘s upcoming film about the 2008 conflict between Georgia and Russia. Now, as then, I’m interested in the film to see if Harlin can take what made a few of his films really entertaining (I’m thinking of Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea and The Long Kiss Goodnight) and apply it to something that isn’t so flashy. Can he come up with a film that’s actually good? It’s been a while. Today he’s got some of the cast lined up for the picture, which we now know will be called simply Georgia. Read More »
