AMC presented a panel on the upcoming series Preacher at Wondercon. Before the panel, showrunner Sam Catlin and stars Dominic Cooper and Ruth Negga spoke with reporters. Catlin said he did not know series creators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg before he started working on the project, and had not heard of the Preacher comic book series. Catlin took a meeting with the pair and started explaining the needs of a television series, to which he says they were receptive.
“I would say, ‘You can’t pace it that way for a TV show. We won’t be able to do X, Y and Z then because where would you put your sets?’” Catlin said. “Stuff like that, because they’d never really done TV before. What I like about Preacher [comics] is it has a modular [structure]. You can kind of lift and place stories all over the place sort of like episodes. He goes to Louisiana. There are these chapters to it, which is really liberating. You can tell stories all over the place. As long as you still have that drive of what Jesse wants, who he’s looking for, you can go anywhere you want.” Read More »
We won’t get to see the supernatural comic book Preacher hit the air until May, but the word out of the pilot’s premiere at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this month is that the series is an outstanding adaptation of the source material from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, perfectly balancing the line between “delightfully visceral and absurdly cartoonish.”
Now one of the more cartoonish aspects of the show has been revealed with the first image of the character named Eugene Root (played by Ian Colletti). However, once you see the image after the jump, you’ll understand why this character is better known by the nickname “Arseface” Read More »

One of this year’s most anticipated screenings at the SXSW Film Festival wasn’t for a film at all, but for a show. AMC brought the very first episode of its long-developing Preacher adaptation to the event, much to the anxious anticipation of the source material’s many fans.
Based on the graphic novel by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Preacher follows, well, a preacher, who finds himself in possession of a very unusual power. He sets out on a quest to confront God, and along the way joins up with a former flame, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire, Cassyidy (Joseph Gilgun). And by all accounts, the story is even stranger than that description makes it sound.
Show creators Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin (the latter of whom will also serve as showrunner) have been very upfront about the fact that their series would not be a letter-for-letter, panel-for-panel adaptation of the source material. And Ennis, for what it’s worth, doesn’t seem to mind one bit. So the real question here is how capably they’ll have captured the spirit of the novel. We’ve rounded up some of the Preacher reviews after the jump.

It’s been a long, long journey to the screen for Preacher. First the Garth Ennis and Steven Dillon comic book series was going to be a film (with James Marsden attached to play the lead at one point), and then it was going to be an HBO series, and then it was going to be a movie again (this time with Sam Mendes and then D.J. Caruso linked to the directing gig), and then, finally, about two years ago, AMC got the ball rolling on a TV adaptation with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on board to write and executive produce.
Now that show is finally just about ready for prime time, as AMC has officially announced the Preacher premiere date. Here’s a hint: it’ll (hopefully) get a big boost from Fear the Walking Dead fans. Get all the details on the Preacher premiere date below. Read More »

Preacher has been battling to reach the screen in some form since the late ’90s, when Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon‘s controversial, critically praised comic series was still a new kid on the block. Now, years after Kevin Smith and Sam Mendes and Mark Steven Johnson tried and failed to produce big screen and small screen versions, the infamous series is finally arriving as a show on AMC. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin are behind this incarnation. Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, and Joseph Gilgun are playing the story’s central heroes. And now, the first trailer for the series is here. Just be careful – people who associate with Preacher tend to get struck by lightning if they ever step near a church again.

Yes, teasers for trailers are the bane of all existence. Yes, nothing is more irritating than watching a commercial for an advertisement. And yes, realizing that the “First Look!” at a project that has many people very excited only amounts to a few seconds is deeply frustrating. So know that the first official look at footage from AMC‘s upcoming adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon‘s Preacher is online, but also know that it’s literally about five seconds and that a proper trailer is set to arrive in just a few days.
Let’s face it, though: you’re probably going to watch this anyway. Take a deep breath, ask the deity of your choice for forgiveness, and watch the first Preacher footage after the jump.

Toni Collette and Drew Barrymore star in the comedy Miss You Already, which will premiere soon at TIFF before opening in the US and UK later this fall. A film with Toni Collette in a lead role is something we’re always game to watch, and this one is particularly interesting as it is directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight, Plush).
Here, Collette and Barrymore play friends with a strong bond who are rocked when one is diagnosed with cancer. The pair ultimately faces the problem head-on, but not without a significant struggle. Dominic Cooper, Paddy Considine, Tyson Ritter and Jacqueline Bisset also appear in the film; check out the Miss You Already trailer below.

Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Director Duncan Jones has been coming to Comic Con with Warcraft for three years now. With the movie finally set to arrive in theaters just under a year from now, Comic-Con finally got a first look at some official footage from the video game adaptation, and it’s definitely something to talk about.
The footage on display has simultaneously some of the most beautiful visual effects footage I’ve ever seen, along with some of the most niche, heavy-fantasy, somewhat confusing story elements in recent memory. As someone who hasn’t ever dove into the world of Warcraft, I’ll do my best to break down what we saw in Hall H.
