Insidious 3 set visit

Walking onto the set of Insidious Chapter 3 is almost exactly like walking into the Further. That’s not just because, on day 25 of a 29 day shoot, they’re shooting scenes in the Further. It’s because first-time director Leigh Whannel likes a very quiet set and everything is kept incredibly dark. How dark is it? So dark, PAs walk around the stage with flashlight head attachments. So dark that even the dim monitors around which a small group of journalists huddles in far the corner are putting off too much light. A ceiling to floor curtain is dragged in front of us to just make sure things remain dark.

After writing and co-starring in the first two films, Whannel is doing both those jobs as well as directing Insidious Chapter 3. It’s a prequel to the first two, set three years before the first movie, and is described as an origin story for Elise, Lin Shaye’s character. She’ll be called in to help the Lambert family (Stefanie Scott and Dermot Mulroney) deal with some issues in the Further, the alternate plane of existence that’s home to some of the most terrible creatures imaginable. In Insidious Chapter 3, the main villain is described as “the physical manifestation of cancer” and he was the star of the brief, frightening scene we saw shot. It’s August 12, 2014 at Delfino Stages, about 20 miles outside of Los Angeles and this is our Insidious 3 set visit. Read More »

Insidious 3 trailer header

UPDATE: We first posted an Insidious 3 trailer Monday, but that was released prematurely by the studio. The official version has now been released.

The second Insidious film was a bit of a disappointment. After the stellar, terrifying first film, the follow-up seemed to prioritize story over character and scares. Well, a new trailer for the third film, Insidious Chapter 3, heavily suggests this latest installment will fix that mistake.

Chapter 3 takes place before the first two films and explain how ghost hunter Elise (Lin Shaye) learns about The Further, the parallel dimension where the dead live and thrive. She does that via the plight of a young father (Dermot Mulroney) and his daughter (Stefanie Scott).

The latest Insidious 3 trailer is super creepy while really keeping the story hidden behind a bevy of scares, creatures and mood. It’s a great set up for what’s to come. Check out the Insidious Chapter 3 trailer , and new poster, below. Read More »

August Osage County header

The play August: Osage County was kind of a big deal — the blackly comic family drama won the Pulitzer in ’08. The film version is also garnering a lot of attention, thanks in no small part to the cast. Put Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Abigail Breslin, Sam Shepard, and Chris Cooper in a film together and people are bound to pay attention.

Tonight you can watch a live Q&A with some of the cast (Julia Roberts, Julianne Nicholson, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Chris Cooper, Dermot Mulroney) and producer George Clooney. Whether you’re interested in the film or not, the live patter between Clooney and Roberts is always entertaining, and the rest of the cast should be able to think on their feet as well to keep the talk lively.

The livestream Q&A begins at 11pm EST / 8pm PST. Watch via the embed (which may not show up before the start time) below. Read More »

August Osage County header

Fall brings no shortage of star-studded prestige pics, but even in that crowd August: Osage County stands out. The John Wells-directed film stars Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts and Benedict Cumberbatch and Ewan McGregor and Chris Cooper and Abigail Breslin (plus half a dozen others) which means we’re all but guaranteed to see it making waves during awards season.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tracy Letts, August: Osage County chronicles a family gathering in the Midwest. So the setup is fairly simple, but as anyone who’s ever suffered through an extended family trip can attest, it’s ripe for hilarity and emotion. A new trailer has been released by The Weinstein Co., and you can check it out after the jump.

August Osage County header

August: Osage County, a Pulitzer Prize and multiple Tony award winning play, is hoping to become a multiple Oscar-winning film. Directed by John Wells (The Company Men), the film has one of the most impressive dramatic casts in recent memory: Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregorBenedict Cumberbatch,Margot MartindaleChris Cooper, Dermot MulroneyJuliette LewisAbigail Breslin, and Sam Shepard. They’ll bring to life a story about a group of young women forced to go home and deal with their parents. A simple story to be sure, but a powder keg for emotion and drama.

Don’t believe me, though. Check out the trailer and poster for the November 8 release.  Read More »
