Guardians of the Galaxy header size

Christmas came and went last week, but Marvel’s got a couple more gifts for us before we launch into 2014. The studio has just revealed the first still and the official synopsis for Guardians of the Galaxy, coming next summer with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel in the lead roles and James Gunn at the helm. Guardians of the Galaxy Concept 3

One year after Guardians of the Galaxy was officially announced at Comic-Con, the Guardians of the Galaxy cast and crew descended upon Hall H with the first footage from the new movie. Guardians is in Day 13 or 14 of shooting in London, but the team took the day off to fly into San Diego for Comic-Con. They were rewarded with an enthusiastic reception.

Director James Gunn and stars Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Benicio del Toro, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, and Chris Pratt were at the panel to present the reel, as well as to dish out a few spare details about their characters. Hit the jump to get the details.

Marvel Studios knocked its panel out of the park today in Hall H at Comic Con. The third film on the schedule was James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy. Until today we’d seen only some concept art showing off the characters in a general sense. Now, along with a new logo treatment above, we have a concept poster design that reflects part of the footage shown today.

‘Riddick’ Trailer: Catch Him If You Can

Nearly a decade after The Chronicles of Riddick, our favorite Furian warrior is finally charging back onto screens this fall with Riddick. Star Vin Diesel revealed the first peek at the new adventure a couple months back, by way of a 22-second teaser, but now there’s a meatier full-length trailer to sink our teeth into. This is a bit of a surprise, but also likely a good choice. We knew that Marvel Studios was testing many actors to play the big hero Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy. The last name that came up was Jason Momoa, as Marvel reportedly really liked the actor for the role. But he didn’t want it on Marvel’s terms, and so the studio moved on to new candidates.

One person who has been considered for a while, going back to the early test reports, is wrestling star Dave Bautista. He’s now taking the role.  Read More »

Here’s yet another addition to the growing list of possibilities for Peter Quill / Star-Lord in James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy. A source is reporting that John Krasinski is being considered for the role, though with so many stars associated with the role at this point, it’s tough to say how likely Krasinski really is to land the part.

More intriguingly, casting is now also underway for the role of Drax the Destroyer. The first three names to crop up as contenders for that part are Old Spice pitchman Isaiah Mustafa, WWE superstar Dave Bautista, and Generation Kill actor Brian Patrick Wade. Read more after the jump.

‘The Man With the Iron Fists’ Red-Band Trailer

RZA‘s feature film The Man With the Iron Fists has been a long time coming (we wrote about it in ’08 and ’09) but the movie, co-written by RZA and Eli Roth, directed by and starring RZA, and presented by Quentin Tarantino, is close on the horizon.

We saw the first official image from the film, complete with a flying eyeball, earlier this week, and now we’ve got the first trailer. Check out the red-band clip, which is full of swirling splatters of blood, below. Read More »

Full Cast and Plot Revealed for ‘Riddick’

It’s been a long eight years for fans of David Twohy and Vin Diesel‘s Riddick saga, but after numerous stops and starts, the third installment is coming together at last. Universal Studios has issued a press release announcing the start of principal photography in Montreal on the new sci-fi thriller, a follow-up to 2000′s Pitch Black and 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick — and in the process, offered up some new crumbs of information about the film’s plotline and casting.
