Saoirse Ronan isn’t just in one movie about a teen assassin. The first one is Joe Wright’s Hanna (trailer), in which the actress plays a girl raised by her ex-CIA father (Eric Bana) to undertake a cross-continental assassination mission.

The other is Violet & Daisy, which was written by Oscar-winning Precious screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher, who is also making his directorial debut. The film co-stars Alexis Bledel and James Gandolfini. It shot last year and photos and video have been elusive, but some first snippets of footage have come online via the demo reel for the film’s cinematographer, Vanja Cernjul. Check out the very nice-looking moving images after the break. Read More »

NBA All Star Weekend has just concluded and besides the All Star Game, 3-Point Shootout and Slam Dunk Contest, one of the biggest happenings in the world of the basketball was a new film by Robert Rodriguez. The director of Sin City and Spy Kids teamed up with Nike and Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, along with Bruce Willis, Danny Trejo and Kanye West, for a basketball-influenced grindhouse short action film called The Black Mamba. We showed you the poster and a few trailers for the 6 minute movie earlier this month and now, we’ve got the full film embedded after the jump. Read More »

Director Robert Rodriguez already has a fourth Spy Kids and second Sin City on his plate, but man behind Desperado and Machete works so fast he also had the time to direct Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant in a short film for Nike called The Black Mamba. It’ll premiere online February 19, according to its Facebook page, and in anticipation there are two trailers online now. Both are pretty awesome looking and feature cameos by Rodriguez regulars Danny Trejo and Bruce Willis. Check them out, along with the official poster and more, after the jump. Read More »

Machete may not text, but he sure can sell some iced tea. A commercial for Lipton Brisk Iced Tea hit YouTube between Christmas and New Years, and it’s like a little last-minute gift for Danny Trejo fans. In one minute, the actor recaps the plot of Machete, complete with slicing guys in half, some lovemaking, and a lot of hand-washing. Frankly, I like it a lot better than the movie. Spare a minute and hit the jump to check it out. Read More »

Sequel time: Star Trek 2 and Machete Kills couldn’t be more different, but since there’s a slight bit of news about the screenplay progress for each of them, why not make a little sandwich post? First up, Machete star Danny Trejo has told Bloody Disgusting that Robert Rodriguez tells him the script for Machete Kills is done. Don’t believe me? It’s right here: “I asked him when he was going to write it and he says it’s written, so we can get started pretty quick.”

Since the end credits of the first film promised a second (and third) James Bond-style, this isn’t a huge surprise. (The director previously said, “Once you put it out there, just like we found with the trailer, you have to make it.”) But Robert Rodriguez has to finish the fourth Spy Kids movie before anything else. And given that Machete did respectable but far from outrageously good numbers, we don’t know what the state of the series might be with respect to financing, nor whether co-director Ethan Maniquis might be involved.

After the break, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci talk Star Trek 2. (Which, lest you need a reminder, doesn’t actually have a signed director yet, and quite possibly won’t until the script is done.) Read More »

There’s quite a lot of small casting news for The Muppets tonight. Jason Segel and Amy Adams have the key roles, and obviously the other biggest parts will mostly be played by the Muppets. Now Jane Lynch, Donald Glover, Danny Trejo and possibly more are on board. Read More »

Anyone clamoring for another wild 3D romp from the mind of Robert Rodriguez is in luck. Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World is now shooting in Austin, Texas in anticipation of a August 19, 2011 release date. Rodriguez is not only directing from his own screenplay but will also serve as producer, director of photography, editor and visual effects supervisor. The film stars Jessica Alba as a retired secret agent, married to Joel McHale, who is called back into action when the the villainous Timekeeper (played by Jeremy Piven) threatens to take over the world. It’ll also feature the return of Antonio Banderas, Danny Trejo and the original Spy Kids Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara, though they aren’t the stars. Read the full plot description and more after the jump. Read More »
