Alien Covenant Photo

On Alien Day last month, director Ridley Scott offered our first look at the production of Alien: Covenant by way of the mission patch with the name of the title ship we’ll be following. This is just the first of what is meant to be two sequels (even though Scott once said this was the first in a new trilogy) that lead us up to the events of Alien in 1979. Production is still underway, and a new photo has just been shared from the set that provides us with our first look at Katherine Waterston as the new female lead character, Daniels. Will she be as cool as Ellen Ripley?

Vice Principals Trailer

Last night was a big premiere night for HBO with the return of Game of Thrones, followed by the debuts of the new seasons of both Veep and Silicon Valley. And since millions were watching, the cable network decided to release a new Vice Principals trailer. Danny McBride plays Neal Gamby, who basically feels like a somewhat toned down Kenny Powers in a high school, the vice principal of discipline desperately vying for a new vacant position as the principal at Lincoln High School. But Walton Goggins, the vice principal of curriculum, isn’t going to let that job go without a fight.

sausage party sxsw

SXSW tends to be a hectic time for anyone in the general vicinity of Austin, Texas, but Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg may be even busier than most this year. Not only are they premiering their new series Preacher, which hits AMC this spring, they’re also unveiling the first look at their animated film Sausage Party, in the form of a work-in-progress screening.

Described by Rogen as an “R-rated Pixar-style movie,” Sausage Party follows a bunch of food items at a grocery store who wonder about the “Great Beyond” — i.e., what happens after they get purchased. Rogen, who co-wrote the script with Goldberg, Kyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir, voices a hot dog named Frank who falls out of a shopping cart and embarks on an eventful journey to make it back to his shelf before the Fourth of July sale. Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon directed. Angry Birds Movie Easter

Even though Easter weekend is still a couple weeks away, The Angry Birds Movie is getting a head start by getting their holiday greeting out there. After all, birds have become a part of the Easter holiday, along with rabbits, for no good reason at all. The good news is that even though this is just a shameless plug for the animated adaptation of the mobile game franchise, it’s done in an extremely adorable way, thanks to the tiny hatchlings explaining what the Easter Bunny does for the holiday. Seriously, they’re almost unbearably cute. Read More »

Vice Principals teaser trailer

Eastbound & Down wrapped up its fourth and final season in 2013, but Danny McBride fans with HBO subscriptions will have something new to look forward this summer. Vice Principals stars McBride and Walton Goggins as a pair of (you guessed it) vice principals who work together at Lincoln High. Although “together” might not exactly be the right word here, seeing as they’re more interested in destroying each other than in collaborating with one another. Danny McBride Boards a Spaceship for ‘Alien: Covenant’

Danny McBride in Eastbound and Down

It was a given that Michael Fassbender would return for Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant, and the addition of Katherine Waterston as his new leading lady wasn’t exactly surprising either — she’s exactly the kind of young, on-the-verge star you’d expect to see cast in a big-budget blockbuster like this.

The newest new cast member, however, is definitely unexpected. Danny McBride is reportedly in talks to join the outer-space adventure. It’s a rare foray into dramatic territory for the actor, who’s best known for comedy projects like Eastbound and DownRead More »

The Sound and the Fury trailer

James Franco is known as an Oscar-nominated movie star, a terrible Oscar co-host, a model, an artist, an author, and a general all-around weirdo, but he’s also a surprisingly prolific director. And his latest film, The Sound and the Fury, has just unveiled its first trailer.

Based on the classic novel by William FaulknerThe Sound and the Fury chronicles the decline of the once-proud Compson family over three decades in Jefferson, Mississippi. Franco himself plays Benjy, the disabled Compson son, and Seth RogenDanny McBrideScott HazeTim Blake Nelson, Loretta Devine, Joey King, and Ahna O’Reilly also star. david gordon green films ranked

David Gordon Green‘s career really isn’t that odd. He began his journey as an indie darling, directing intimate dramas with a slightly off-kilter tone. When Pineapple Express came out in 2008, his career took a turn, not a detour. But the director’s two major studio comedies that followed the success of his stoner action-comedy divided his fans. With perhaps one exception, whatever the final result, at least he’s always experimenting behind-the-camera.

After the jump, check out a ranking of David Gordon Green’s films.

Don Verdean Trailer

While we wait to see what Disney does with its never-gonna-get-recast icon Indiana Jones, Napoleon Dynamite duo Jared and Jerusha Hess have mounted their own search for the Holy Grail. Don Verdean stars Sam Rockwell as a Biblical archaeologist who gets caught in the rivalry between two congregations led by Danny McBride and Will Forte. Needless to say, this is a much sillier quest than the one Indy went on in The Last Crusade.

Also starring are Jemaine Clement as his Holy Land associate Boaz, Amy Ryan as his assistant Carol, and Leslie Bibb as McBride’s wife. Watch the Don Verdean trailer after the jump. Read More »
