Of all the reasons to love This Is the End, the amazing cast is by far the best. As hilarious as Seth Rogen (who also co-directed with Evan Goldberg), Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson are individually, they’re even better together. The gang has been tight for years, and it shows in every perfectly silly riff.
We can only assume that that set must have been a hoot, what with all of these comedians trying to outdo each other. Now a gag reel from the production only lends credence to that theory. Hit the jump to see the guys getting even goofier on the set than they do in the final film.

Who coulda guessed that the best comedy of the summer might involve a bunch of actors facing the Biblical end of the world? Years ago Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Jay Baruchel (with Jason Stone) made a trailer for an imaginary movie called Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse, and this week they released the feature expansion of the idea. Rogen and Goldberg wrote and co-directed, each making their feature debut as directors.
This Is the End sees six actors — Rogen, Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, and James Franco — trapped in Franco’s house when a raging party is interrupted by the Rapture. The movie has all the lewd and vulgar jokes you’d expect from that crew of actors, but also pokes sly fun at celebrity, and wraps all the goofy humor around a genuinely moral core.
It’s not the movie you expect, and it is funny as hell. Man of Steel is the big attention-getter this weekend, but don’t overlook This Is the End. After you’ve seen the film, chime in below to tell us what you thought about the movie. As always with these pieces, spoilers are fully encouraged. Read More »
On paper, there’s no way This Is The End should work. There are too many stars and too many wacky ideas for a pair of first-time directors to handle. Six famous actors, each playing themselves (or “themselves”) have to survive the end of the world while massacring some of Hollywood’s A-list? That’s just insane.
Thankfully, movies aren’t made on paper, and This Is The End not only works, it slays. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have written and co-directed a balls-out, unapologetic comedy that somehow balances Hollywood insider jokes with violence, scares and a very sweet center. You’ll be hard-pressed to be find a better comedy this summer.

The early word on Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s apocalyptic comedy This Is the End has been great. The film that began as an expansion of the short Jay and Seth Versus the Apocalypse has really grown up. It reportedly achieves more than a few laughs based on the joke premise of a comedy who’s who (Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, Jonah Hill) playing thinly fictionalized versions of themselves as the world goes to hell.
Here’s a new international spot, complemented by a long red-band TV spot, that shows some of the disaster that the actors/characters must face. And speaking of faces, there are character posters for six of the actors. (Why doesn’t Emma Watson get one? At least she gets a lot of play in the red-band spot.) You can see three of them above, and bigger versions of all six are collected in a gallery below. Read More »
Turns out we’re getting Hot Tub Time Machine 2 sooner than we thought. After months of speculation regarding a follow-up to the 2010 comedy, last week Adam Scott joined the cast, replacing John Cusack in the cast that features Craig Robinson, Clark Duke and Rob Corddry. Now Corddry confirmed the film will start shooting in the next week or so with Steve Pink returning to direct.
And that’s not all. While appearing on the Howard Stern Show Corddry explained a bunch of additional facts, including one particularly revealing nugget: Scott will be playing the son of Cusack’s character as the hot tub sends the group into the future. Read more below. Read More »
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
There are a whole lot of great people in Rapture-Palooza, written by Chris Matheson (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure) and directed by Paul Middleditch (Separation City). The film features Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley as a young couple navigating the slightly hellish landscape of Earth after the Rapture. Craig Robinson is the Antichrist, and Rob Corddry, Rob Huebel, Paul Scheer, Thomas Lennon, Ana Gasteyer, John Michael Higgins, and Tyler Labine are on hand, too.
Like I said, a lot of great people… so we’ll just pretend for a while that the film looks a lot better than this red-band trailer makes it out to be. Knowing that this was written by the guy who created Bill & Ted helps, and this trailer seems to be angling for some of that spirit, and the weirder moments of the Harold & Kumar movies, too. But a lot of Rapture-Palooza looks a bit like Birdemic, only with recognizable actors. That might be good; a lot of people seem to like Birdemic.
There’s a lot of bad language in here, which is what earns the red-band status. Whether the language adds to the jokes is something we’ll let you decide. (I do like the vulgar crow.) Read More »
On June 13th 2012 I visited the set of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s This is The End. After the jump you will find a list 35 things I learned while visiting the set, including how the project was put together and the many similarities and differences between the real life Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, and the versions of they play in the film.

This week’s second trailer for This Is The End once again features what’s sure to be one of the better trailer moments this year: Michael Cera slapping Rihanna on the butt, and then her punching him in the face. In the red band trailer, that’s followed up with more of Cera’s true colors. In this all-ages version, things feel decidedly more tame, but no less funny. Both trailers together give us a great of idea of what to expect on June 12 when directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg bring together many of their funny, famous friends for a hard-R rated comedy about the end of the world.

Put James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson in a room together and there’s no telling what’s going to happen. They might make a sequel to Pineapple Express, they might try and perform an exorcism, or they might just rip each other to shreds verbally for each other’s enjoyment. And that’s not even considering what’s going on outside.
In This is the End, written and directed by Rogen and Evan Goldberg, those six actors are the survivors of a massive, star-studded party that occurs at James Franco’s house during the start of the apocalypse. Many stars die and, come June 12, many laughs will be had. After the big WonderCon panel over the weekend (read our coverage and interview here) they’re debuting a brand new red-band trailer. Check it out below, and check back later this week for the tamer, but still hilarious, green band trailer too. Read More »
