VOTD: 25 Actors Before They Were Famous, in 3 Minutes

I’ve always had this fascination with seeing current rich and famous figures in their humble beginnings, and the success of tabloid columns and webpages devoted to that very topic suggest I’m not the only one. When some A-list faces are as familiar to us as those of our actual loved ones, seeing long-ago photos or videos of them is amusing in the same way that seeing pictures of your friends as little kids is amusing. “Before They Were Famous: 25 Actors in 3 Minutes” collects some especially amusing snippets of today’s biggest stars, including Angelina Jolie, Ryan Gosling, Jack Nicholson, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, in some of their earliest acting gigs. Watch the video after the jump.

‘Scream 4′ – What Did You Think?

There are a lot of questions surrounding the release of Wes Craven’s Scream 4 this weekend. Can Craven still pull off a solid horror thriller? (Obviously the man is a legend, but 2010′s My Soul To Take wasn’t exactly his most impressive work.) Even if Craven succeeds as a director, can he reinvigorate a moribund franchise? And can said franchise, which itself was a shot-in-the-arm to the horror genre during its initial release in 1996, still maintain its relevance in the midst of increasing cynicism in today’s horror cinema?

Be sure to check out Germain’s review of the film, and share your thoughts in the comments below. And assume SPOILERS lie after the jump and in the comments.

A full-length movie trailer has been released for Wes Craven‘s Scream 4, unveiled by the film’s Canadian distributor Alliance Viva Film (via Bleeding Cool). Last week there was news about the casting for Scream 4 that suggested Twilight‘s Ashley Greene could end up playing one of the lead roles in the sequel — a part more or less equivalent to Neve Campbell‘s in the original film. Now it looks like Emma Roberts is going to have that role. So is Greene out of the film entirely? Read More »

The first questions about Scream 4, which has taken many years to come together, revolved around which members of the cast would return. Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson, who kicked off a new wave of horror interest with the first Scream, have got Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox all signed to return. But this is theoretically the first chapter of a new trilogy (shudder), which means we need a lot of new characters.

Enter the potential new redshirts stars: Lake Bell, Ashley Greene, Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin. Read More »

Over the last few months, it’s been revealed that the first entry in the new Scream trilogy, aka Scream 4, is set in Sidney Prescott’s hometown roughly a decade after Scream 3. And contrary to old rumors, the first film will not be in 3D. Courtney Cox and David Arquette were signed to reprise their roles from the get-go, and following a prolonged declination, Neve Campbell signed much to the relief of writer/creator, Kevin Williamson. (He had expressed dismay on Twitter at rewriting the trilogy without her). The final puzzle piece, Wes Craven, remains in talks to direct, which is arguably the most important to its success besides the script(s).

But that still leaves doubt as to whether Williamson—who’s had renewed Dawson’s Creek-like success with the CW’s Vampire Diariesstill possesses an irreverent sensibility to update the franchise for a contemporary world of tailspin pop culture and younger, less established horror tropes. Williamson has now revealed several of his influences for the first film, and expressed the complexity of achieving the right tone…

David Arquette has told E! Online that he will definitely be returning for the next Scream installment, as will his wife, Courtney Cox. We’ve known for a good while that they were in talks for the project, but Arquette is now treating it like a done deal. Amusingly, he imparted this news to the E! reporter from his plastic cubicle above Madison Square Garden. Snoot and sneer at him for hanging up there all you want, but at least check out the charity he’s supporting – Feeding America. Kudos, Mr. Arquette.

After the break, some Arquette quotes on what he knows, and doesn’t know, about the next Scream picture, and why he said yes to coming back.
