Constantine - Season Pilot

It seems like every comic book property in existence is getting a TV show nowadays, but that doesn’t mean they’re always successful. NBC has just given the axe to Constantine, which starred Matt Ryan as the Vertigo Comics antihero. More on the Constantine cancellation after the jump.

Update: The original report has been redacted somewhat — Constantine isn’t yet officially dead. The series’ showrunner has weighed in as well. More below after the original article text.

Constantine second season

The future of Constantine has been uncertain ever since NBC decided to limit the first season order to 13 episodes, and has been sluggish about calling for a second season. But if one rumor is correct, things may not be as dire as they seem. Word is that NBC might bounce Constantine over to SyFy, which, for one, would change ratings expectations for the show.

In addition, there could be a change in the nature of the series, as it wouldn’t need to conform to network standards. Indeed, rumor is that the show could take on the title Hellblazer, and perhaps be even closer to the comics on which it is based. Read More »

Shazam in the DC Movie Universe

So is Shazam part of the DC Movie Universe, or not? We originally thought it might be, but the film is from New Line rather than Warner Bros. proper, and comments from New Line head Toby Emmerich have suggested Shazam might be off on its own. But now a new post from DC has led people to thinking that the character Shazam is part of the same universe that also features Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman — which naturally has us wondering if he’ll fit into the big Justice League story after all. So, first off, is the big question: Is Shazam in the DC Movie Universe as an active group participant, or not? Read More »

Vertigo movie slate

When Warner Bros. announced a ten-film slate of DC Comics films last week, taking the studio all the way to 2020, you might have noticed one big omission. There was no Sandman, which we know Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been developing over much of 2014. But worry not (or continue to worry, if you’re afraid of the film), as Sandman creator Neil Gaiman says things are still moving along, and that we can expect another announcement. In short, Sandman isn’t part of the DC movie slate, because it is part of the Vertigo movie slate.  Read More »

Guillermo-del-Toro-set-pac-rim

Will Guillermo del Toro ever get to direct Justice League Dark? Who knows. He’s finishing up an October 2015 release in Crimson Peak, and then moves into 2017’s Pacific Rim 2. After that his schedule is hypothetically open. At Comic-Con, Legendary chairman Thomas Tull teased the filmmaker about possibly letting him make passion projects Into the Mountains of Madness or Hellboy 3 in the future. That leaves Justice League Dark as one of multiple films he either doesn’t make until the next decade or leaves to someone else.

Still, exploration of that dark DC Comics universe will start this fall in the NBC show Constantine. In a new interview del Toro said that while Warner Bros. has given him full freedom when writing the film, he would be open to tying the show into the movie, or maybe even casting Matt Ryan, if the opportunity presented itself. Read about the potential Justice League Dark Constantine crossover below. Read More »
