Constantine TV trailer

Here’s the first trailer for NBC’s new incarnation of DC’s magician John Constantine, and it looks… pretty good! Scoring Neil Marshall (The Descent, various Game of Thrones episodes) to direct the pilot was a good move, and Matt Ryan looks properly selfish and capable as Constantine. See, while the Keanu Reeves movie directed by Francis Lawrence has its charm, and captured great facets of the DC character, it was still a pretty far cry from the stories that made Hellblazer a must-read series, once upon a time. Will this show do better? Tough to tell at this point, but it definitely gets a few points in its favor. Check out the Constantine TV trailer below. Read More »

The Flash

It’s that time of year when the TV networks clear the crap off their channel and fill it up with new crap. The hope, of course, is the new crap sticks around and gains an audience. While we don’t follow a lot of TV here on /Film, we do follow big comic book shows and three new DC Comics TV shows just got picked up. Two on The CW and another on NBC.

The first, and most obvious, is The Flash, the Arrow spinoff starring Grant Gustin as the iconic DC Comics speedster. Then there’s iZombie, Veronica Mars‘ creator Rob Thomas’s adaptation of the Vertigo comic. Then, over on NBC, Constantine, starring Matt Ryan as a supernatural detective, got picked up too. All three DC Comics TV shows are expected to air in the Fall. Read More »

If you thought this TV season had a lot of comic book shows just wait until next season. Arrow and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will (possibly) still be around, plus we’ll get Fox’s Gotham, the CW’s Flash and NBC’s Constantine. Of the three new additions, the latter is certainly the most mysterious. John Constantine is part of the “dark” DC universe from which Guillermo del Toro is developing a movie, but this show was created by Man of Steel writer David Goyer. NBC has released the first full look at actor Matt Ryan as Constantine, and you can see the full body look below.

Matt Ryan Takes Lead Role in ‘Constantine’

Criminal-Minds-matt-ryan

Briefly: We have our new John Constantine — the NBC show that will bring DC’s demon-busting Englishman to life will feature Matt Ryan in the lead role. Ryan is probably best known at this point for a stint on a Criminal Minds spinoff, though he was also in the Sundance film Flypaper, and had a small role in Layer Cake. (Or, for the gamers, the Welsh actor recently voiced Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.)

Deadline has the casting info, and gives us a description of John Constantine: ”a working-class Londoner with rakish good looks, scruffy blond hair, deadpan humor, and signature trench coat, who has been studying the dark arts since he was a teenager.” For those who are sticklers for appearances, the key detail there will be “blond,” so don’t be too concerned about the image above. As to how well Ryan will embody the role… well, we’ll have to wait and see.

The basic story of the Constantine pilot will be “when the daughter of a late friend is targeted by demons, Constantine steps in to save her.” Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist) wrote the pilot, based on a story written with David Goyer. Neil Marshall is directing the pilot.

Marvel may be running circles around DC in the big-screen franchise department, but the latter is doing quite well for itself on the small screen. One of several DC-based shows in the works right now is Constantine, and it’s moving quickly. The drama got a pilot order from NBC earlier this month, and has now picked up Neil Marshall (The Descent) to helm. More details after the jump.

A lot is happening with DC and TV today. Fox ordered Gotham, and NBC has announced a pilot order for Constantine. We don’t know who’ll play DC’s blond British magician John Constantine, who often cares more about himself than anyone else, and battles dark magic in the DC Universe as friends and foes alike fall around him. We do know that David Goyer pitched the series and will be exec producer, and Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist, Dexter) is scripting with Goyer. Read More »

Fast and Furious 7 - Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson, Vin Diesel

Whether you want to read Keanu Reeves‘ regrets about the (non-existent) Constantine sequel, Robert Englund‘s hopes for a (theoretical) Elm Street prequel, or Alfonso Cuaron‘s thoughts on the Harry Potter spinoff, there’s a little something for everyone here. Also after the jump:

  • Gareth Evans breaks down the trailer for The Raid 2: Berandal
  • Michael Bay hints at a big theme from Transformers 4
  • Steven Spielberg gets a bit political while in Hawaii for Jurassic World
