Robin Hood (Disney)

It’s been five whole years since we had a big feature film about Robin Hood, so at present there are multiple parties trying to bring us the next one. The latest to join the fray is Joby Harold, the guy behind Guy Ritchie’s upcoming King Arthur franchise.

Titled Robin Hood: Origins, Harold’s script will be (say it with me now) a gritty reinvention of the classic character. Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Appian Way is producing.  Read More »

Meagan Good in Deception

Fox’s Minority Report TV pilot has been busy over the past week, picking up three Precogs and a non-Precog lead. Laura Regan and Stark Sands (the latter in a dual role) will play the three clairvoyants, while Meagan Good plays a regular old human who gets involved with them.

The trio join Li Jun Li, who plays a CSI technician, and Daniel London, who reprises the role of Wally the Caretaker from the 2002 movie. More on the Minority Report casting after the jump.  Read More »

Lego Star Wars series

One of the original conceits behind Star Wars was that the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 were the characters that tied everything together, and through whose “eyes” the stories were told. That’s not quite how it worked out, because the human characters turned out to be a lot more interesting. But the droids were always around, and now they’ll really take center stage in a Disney XD series called Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales. Yeah, that’s a Lego Star Wars series, conceived as a limited animated show with five 22-minute episodes that will air later in 2015.

The idea here is interesting: Droid Tales will re-tell the stories of the first six Star Wars films, this time directly through the voices of C-3PO and R2-D2. That’s all part of a new story, which will be the first official post-Return of the Jedi tale in the newly defined canon continuity before The Force Awakens opens in December. Read More »

Power Rangers short film

One of the biggest movie stories this week was the release of Power/Rangers, a professionally made, R-rated fan film based on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Directed by Joseph Kahn (Torque) and produced by Adi Shankar (Dredd), the Power Rangers short film put a dark, kinetic spin on the ’90s cartoon. Fans seemed to enjoy it but two groups who didn’t like the short were Saban Brands, the company who owns the Rangers, and members of the original cast.

Below, read about the copyright claim, the reactions of the original Rangers and find out how you can watch the Power Rangers short film now. Read More »

Black Widow Age of Ultron header

The first official Avengers: Age of Ultron poster was a big mess of characters and details, but the character posters are a lot more clean. It helps that the posters only have to focus on one character each — in this latest case, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow.

(These originally looked like they could be something along the lines of the concept art drop from Comic Con last summer, which assembled into one large image. But they clearly don’t fit together as currently released, despite having a common background theme.)

We’ll continue to post the Age of Ultron character posters as they arrive. For now, see all of the released Avengers: Age of Ultron character posters below.

Neil Patrick Harris Oscars 2015

Hosting the Oscars is no easy task. You have to be entertaining, funny, and upbeat, but not too offensive. Pop culture savvy, smart, engaging, but not off-putting. Plus you have to do it in front of literally the most famous audience of people ever assembled, every single year. Many have tried and succeeded. Others have crashed and burned. Some do fine, and then quietly go off into the sunset.

Most people feel that’s what’ll happen to Neil Patrick Harris after hosting the 87th annual Academy Awards this year. His hosting duties received reviews that were all over the map, all but guaranteeing producers don’t ask him back. If they don’t go with one of their tried and true standbys like Billy Crystal, Steve Martin or Ellen DeGeneres, who could be next? Below, we pick 15 people who would make a great 2016 Oscar host. Powers

What happens to a superhero when you take away his powers? It’s a question that’s been asked countless times in comic books, and it’ll be asked again in Powers, the first original scripted series from PlayStation.

Sharlto Copley plays former superhero Christian Walker. After losing his abilities, he becomes a cop specializing in cases involving superpowers. He feels kind of conflicted about this, as you might imagine, but in the new trailer he seems to have made some kind of peace with it. Watch the new Powers trailer after the jump. Read More »
