Breaking Bad Bryan Cranston

With LexCorp logos all over Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel, it’s a pretty safe bet Lex Luthor will play a role in the film’s sequel. That sequel, we now know, will feature Batman and is likely going to be called Batman vs. Superman. Several actors have been mentioned as possibly being up for the role of the evil genius, including Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston and in a new interview, Cranston suggested he was open to playing the role. As we promised in “The Ones Who Knock” Kickstarter, I will be doing weekly recaps here of each episode of Breaking Bad. For those of you unfamiliar with my recapping style, it’s less of a straightforward plot summary and more a distillation of the most interesting elements of each week’s episode.  The recaps will spoil everything up through the current episode (S5E09 “Blood Money”), but won’t spoil any future episodes or even scenes from the “Next Time” segments of the show.  There will, however, be some light speculation and straight-up crackpot theories.  No theory or speculation is based on foreknowledge of the show.  So hold on to your pork pie hats, because here we go.

In the event that Bryan Cranston‘s character in Breaking Bad has too much of a chance to earn your sympathy and you’d rather see him play pure evil, check out this trailer for Cold Comes the Night. Cranston plays a Russian gangster looking for some money that fell into the hands of Alice Eve, and he promises (in a very entertaining Russian accent) to put a bullet in her daughter’s ear if she doesn’t comply.

Breaking Bad Pilot Bryan Cranston

“If you’re a writer tonight, you might want to hide your knives,” said Jason Reitman at Tuesday night’s special summer live read. “This script is so good you’ll never want to write again. You f***er, Vince.”

The script Reitman was referring to, the script that could get the writer/director to come back and do a live read in July when he’s not scheduled to come back until October, was the pilot of AMC’s Breaking Bad. The “Vince” is creator Vince Gilligan. And as fantastic the first episode of Breaking Bad is to watch, to hear it read reveals another level of brilliance. If you were to travel back in time, sit down with Gilligan in 2007 and ask him to describe what happens in the show over a few beers, that’s what his writing sounds like. It’s perfectly, brilliantly descriptive with a language that’s filled with vulgarity and humor. It has a conversational, culturally current tone that pops off the page.

The latest live read at the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art, presented by Film Independent, revealed not only this fantastic writing, but some fun interpretations by great actors, appearances by the original actors, deleted scenes and more. Read about it below. Read More »

Hardwick revealed the final eight episodes of the show will be followed by Talking Bad, a recap show he’ll host to help us digest what we see in each episode. Plus, the team talked about how one major death was imagined differently, the tone on set and their level of satisfaction with the ending. Below, check out the 12 things we learned about Breaking Bad and watch an excellent five season recap video. Read More »

Comic Con is too large of an event for celebrities to actually walk the show floor, but that doesn’t stop some of them from trying. Justin Timberlake once walked Comic-Con dressed as a ‘Sesame Street’ character years ago. Many other actors have famously thrown on a Stormtrooper helmet and walked the show floor with just a half-assed cosplay presentation — so if you ever see someone who just threw on a mask and it looks like they didn’t try hard enough, ask yourself which actor might possibly be hiding in plain sight. Michael Cera just threw on a fierce-looking Gorilla mask one year.

This year, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston, Doctor Who‘s eleventh doctor Matt Smith and The Wolverine star Hugh Jackman are among the actors we know who donned a disguise and walked the show floor this year. After the jump you can see how they did it.
