Quvenzhané Wallis was an unknown when she was cast in the offbeat indie Beasts of the Southern Wild, but her winning personality and natural talent won her fans and earned her accolades in no time. Now she’s applying those qualities to a more conventional project, Will Gluck‘s updated adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Annie.
The first =trailer offers plenty of chances to see Wallis in action, singing and dancing her way through modern-day Harlem. Not even the mean Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz) can keep Wallis’s Annie down, and in seemingly no time at all she’s charmed her way into the life of kindly billionaire Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx). Watch the first trailer after the jump.

Amanda Seyfried‘s covered more genres in the few of years than some actors do in their entire careers. She’s done an indie drama (The End of Love), a thriller (Gone), a musical (Les Misérables), a romcom (The Big Wedding), a kids’ cartoon (Epic), and now, she’s gonna do porn. Er, that is, a movie about porn.
Jeffrey Friedman and Rob Epstein‘s Lovelace chronicles the story of Linda Boreman, who became an international sensation after changing her name to Linda Lovelace and starring in the crossover porn hit Deep Throat. Seyfried plays the title character, while Peter Sarsgaard co-stars as her husband/Svengali Chuck Traynor. Watch the first trailer after the jump.
Update: While the original embed was removed at the studio’s request, the official version has been released and can be found below.

How many career resurgences has Woody Allen had at this point? I’ve lost track, but we’re square in the middle of one now, kicked off with the career-topping success of his 2011 release Midnight in Paris. His new film, Blue Jasmine, stars Cate Blanchett as “a New York housewife struggling through a life crisis.” That sounds middling to dire until you see what Blanchett is doing with it — she’s entitled and insufferable, but ragged and clearly, if comically, worn down to a nub.
This trailer introduces her character, and the sister (Sally Hawkins) who takes her into her San Francisco home when Jasmine’s husband (Alec Baldwin) turns out to be less than an upstanding dude. Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Peter Sarsgaard, and Michael Stuhlbarg also star; you’ll only get a glimpse of Louis C.K. here, but he seems to be playing a suitor for Hawkins.

The ascent of Robert Downey Jr. from near-outcast status to major movie star can be traced in part to Jon Favreau, who lobbied to cast Downey as Tony Stark in Iron Man. The success of the film minted the actor as a bona-fide star, and also helped push Favreau’s directorial career to a new level.
Now the two will work together once again on a much smaller project: an indie ensemble comedy called Chef. (Not to be confused with the project of the same name that once had David Fincher attached to direct.) Favreau scripted, and has assembled a cast that also features Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, and Bobby Cannavale. Read More »

Briefly: Woody Allen continues to work at a pace that other directors can only dream of. He’s following To Rome With Love with a new film that stars Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and now Michael Stuhlbarg. And now the movie has a title, Blue Jasmine, and a distribution deal with Allen’s regular partner Sony Pictures Classics.
Allen scripted (of course) and the film follows “the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife.” In form typical to the director, that’s just about all we know beyond the cast roster. We do know the film will shoot in the US, making it the director’s first film at home since the 2009 release Whatever Works. The fact that this will be Allen’s fourth movie since that picture came out is a testament to his wonderfully relentless work habit. [THR]
