roger deakins Blade Runner 2

Ridley Scott’s original Blade Runner is a film that’s revered for its look. However, cinematographer Jordan Cronenweth rarely gets the credit. Instead, it usually goes to his director, production designer, set designer and others. With director Denis Villeneuve‘s sequel now in the works, fans were certainly wondering if the look of the new film could live up to that universal praise. That answer is now, undoubtedly, yes.

The cinematographer for Villeneuve’s last two films, Roger Deakins, will be shooting Blade Runner 2 when the cameras role next year. Deakins shot Prisoners and the upcoming Sicario for the director, as well as Fargo, The Shawshank Redemption, The Big Lebowski, Skyfall and many others. He’s famously been nominated for 12 Cinematography Oscars without winning one. Read more about Roger Deakins Blade Runner 2 below. Read More »

Blade Runner 2 script

That’s according to Ridley Scott, at least. During a conversation about the intersection of making films based on some of the oldest stories (such as Scott’s new Exodus) and science fiction, the subject of Blade Runner 2 came up. Scott has recently said the Blade Runner 2 script was going well, and that he was very happy with the results. And now he says that Harrison Ford is also incredibly happy with the draft — Scott none-too-humbly reports that Ford called the draft Scott and Hampton Fancher have been working on “the best thing I’ve ever read.” Read More »

Scott won't direct Blade Runner 2

What would a director change do to your interest in more Blade Runner? The prospect of Ridley Scott coming back as director for Blade Runner 2 seemed like one of the only points that stood in the film’s favor. Then came Prometheus, and even the idea of Scott directing started to seem not so great. The director has continued to develop Blade Runner 2 alongside a sequel to Prometheus. He has made the films The Counselor (released last year) and Exodus: Gods and Kings, which hits soon, and will shoot The Martian next. So how will he make the sequel in question? Simple: Ridley Scott won’t direct Blade Runner 2.

A new director will make Blade Runner 2, and the film is planned to shoot in 2015. As to the question of whether or not Harrison Ford might still show up in the sequel, Scott says to expect the actor, but only for the film’s third act, as the movie is about “finding [Deckard].” Read More »

Prometheus 2 new alien

The word “alien” is a big deal when talking about Prometheus and its potential sequel. Ridley Scott‘s film was, after all, a return to the universe he helped create in his defining 1979 film Alien. The signature alien — the xenomorph — from that film even made an appearance in altered but recognizable form at the end of Prometheus. But for the sequel, which will follow the character played by Noomi Rapace on a new journey, Scott says there are entirely new plans in mind. See what Scott has to say about new aliens in Prometheus 2 below. Read More »

Prometheus

Ridley Scott has one of the best problems you can have in Hollywood. He’s got a number of projects in development that he desperately wants to make, and which financiers want to fund. The problem is, he’s just one man, and the second he commits to a project, others get moved back.

After releasing Prometheus in 2012, we already knew he was looking at making a sequel to that, as well as a sequel to Blade Runner. Neither project has happened yet, with the director instead making The Counselor, Exodus: Gods and Kings, and now The Martian. In a new interview, Scott makes it sound like either Prometheus 2 or Blade Runner 2 could be next, and he hints that the xenomorphs from the Alien franchise won’t play a part in the former. Read the Prometheus 2 xenomorph quotes and more below. Read More »

Prometheus 2 delay

Ridley Scott is busy. He’s got his Moses tale Exodus: Gods and Monsters opening in December and then will shoot The Martian with Matt Damon, with a November 2015 release already set for that novel adaptation.

But Scott also has been announced to direct sequels to two of his sci-fi series: Blade Runner and Prometheus. We’ve been under the impression that Prometheus 2 would hit in 2016, but we’re now wondering if that is even less likely than it once was. Why? Well, because the new Blade Runner film is nearly ready to go, and Scott sounds as if he wants to make it sooner rather than later. Read More »

Blade Runner sequel

One question has bounced around since the news of a new Blade Runner film was first announced: will Harrison Ford take part, or won’t he? Alcon Entertainment, which is producing the film, originally said “no.” Ridley Scott said at one point that he didn’t think Ford would star, but that he wanted him in the film. Now Alcon has made the the first half of a definitive statement by formally offering a role to Harrison Ford. The second half of that statement will be Ford’s acceptance, obviously. But Alcon is making enough of a big deal out of the offer that the company probably already knows his answer.
