Fake Angry Birds movie trailers are nothing new. We even posted a good one, done in the style of Michael Bay, a few months back. But as Hollywood struggles to get an official version off the ground, the gang over at Machinima and The Quarter Bin, such as director Nick Murphy, have come up with surprisingly simple, I-can’t-believe-I-didn’t-think-of-that way to take the Angry Birds concept and port it to the mainstream. For over a year and a half, Angry Birds has been one of the most popular games in the world. It’s big enough that Aaron Sorkin spouted a joke about it on 30 Rock (and also gave out some play advice in the same scene); hell, big enough that it has replaced Farmville as the image of casual gaming. What Pac Man was in 1981, Angry Birds is now.

A movie has been in the very early stages of development since April of 2010, and the project is finally moving forward with the addition of former Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel, who is now working with the game’s publisher, Rovio, to launch the cartoonish birds right at the sensitive eggs of audiences everywhere. Angry Birds is probably the most addictive game on the iPhone or iPad. The game basically involves slingshotting various different types of birds, each with different atributes (one can slingshot for instance, where another drops a egg bomb) at structures housing green pig creatures. The goal is not to knock down the structures, but to kill the pigs. Of course, knocking down the structures is how you accomplish this, and the puzzels can be quite challenging, but not too challenging — it’s always fun.
