The last Jupiter Ascending trailer got mixed reviews when it hit in December, with some folks rolling their eyes at the sci-fi cliches and others enchanted by the Wachowskis‘ creativity and ambition. Today a new Japanese promo has hit for the epic adventure, and while it won’t change any skeptical minds, those who loved the last one will probably be thrilled to see more.
Mila Kunis stars as the Jupiter of the title, a lowly cleaning lady down on Earth. Her life is forever changed when she’s tracked down by an albino wolf-man from outer space (Channing Tatum), because that tends to happen when one is tracked down by an albino wolf-man from outer space. Andy and Lana Wachowski‘s Jupiter Ascending has been getting a lot of attention lately, because that’s what happens when you turn America’s Sweetheart into Jacobim Mugatu. But it’s just one of two major sci-fi projects due from the pair this year. The Wachowskis are also teaming with J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) on their first small-screen effort, a new Netflix series titled Sense8.
At the time of its announcement, the drama was described in vague terms as being about “minds linked and souls hunted,” but now we have some more details about the dramatic, globe-spanning plot. Hit the jump for character details and more.

For some of us here, Jupiter Ascending, the new film from Andy and Lana Wachowski, is among the most anticipated films of 2014. It doesn’t rank quite that high for me, but I’m still curious to see what the siblings do with a huge space opera that follows a cleaning lady from Earth who is pulled into cosmic intrigue when otherworldly powers find that her DNA puts her in line for a position of great power in the universe.
We’ve seen a trailer for the film, and now there’s a new image that gives us a good look at the hybrid hunter played by Channing Tatum. Read More »
The last film from Andy and Lana Wachowski, Cloud Atlas, ranged through time from centuries in our civilization’s past to thousands of years in the future. So, by comparison, the scope of their new film Jupiter Ascending, which merely flies from Chicago into deep space, seems almost restrained.
But nothing else looks restrained in the new film, which sees Channing Tatum as a sort of hybrid animal-human hunter tracking down a woman on earth (Mila Kunis) who holds the key to galactic intrigue.

Whether or not you like the films by Andy and Lana Wachowski, there’s no arguing that the siblings go all-out when putting together a movie. They go big, and they go weird, and there is simply no one else making movies in quite the same mode.
What’s their next film, Jupiter Ascending going to be like? Not small, that’s for sure. Channing Tatum plays a wolf/albino hybrid who falls in with a human woman (Mila Kunis) who attracts the ire of the Queen of the Universe, by virtue of possessing identical genetic material. Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne are in the film as well.
The film is in post-production now, and Andy Wachowski recently said the film is going much more smoothly than Cloud Atlas did in post-prodution, but that the effects are “way more complicated.” After the break, Lana talks about the film in other terms. Read More »
Bryan Singer and the Wachowskis are back behind cameras this week as their new films, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Jupiter Ascending, have begun shooting. Singer announced the start his production with a tweet featuring Patrick Stewart as Professor X. Warner Bros. issued a press release about the Wachowskis’ sci-fi film, which stars Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis. Both films will be released in July 2014. Read More »
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Late last year, Andy and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix, Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas) announced the development of their first television project, called Sens8. Working with J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5), the two were putting together a TV series that would potentially see the Wachowskis in the director’s chair(s) for an episode or two.
Now the show is described as “a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted.” We have that description because Netflix has given the show a 10-episode order, and Sens8 will debut on the streaming service in late 2014. Read More »
