The Revenant Featurette

Lately there have been some shake-ups in the race towards the Academy Awards. Even though The Revenant won Best Drama at the Golden Globes, the Producers Guild gave their award to The Big Short and the Screen Actors Guild gave their top prize to Spotlight. However, the awards love has gone back to the aforementioned Golden Globe winner after the Directors Guild crowned Alejandro G. Iñárritu and The Revenant with the top feature film award.

2016 DGA Awards

The Golden Globes have come and gone, but we’re still in the full swing of awards season. Last week brought the nominations for the Writers Guild Awards, the BAFTAs across the pond, and the Producers Guild Awards. Now it’s the Directors Guild of America Awards chiming in with their annual nominees, and while fans of Mad Max: Fury Road will be happy, those who enjoyed Carol will not. Mark L Smith interview

The Revenant is a genuine epic. As large as the film is in scale, with its vast landscapes and its long journey into a chilly hell, both director Alejandro González Iñárritu and screenwriter Mark L. Smith wanted to tell a personal, intimate story amongst all the chaos. The two-and-a-half-hour film is about revenge, but to Smith, it’s about far more than that.

The screenwriter has been working on the project for years now, starting all the way back in 2007. It’s easy to see why any writer would be drawn to this story, to have the oppurtunity to tell a story through behavior and images, rather than exposition — which there’s very, very little of in The Revenant.

We’re just a few short days away from Christmas Day, which means some audiences will be able to enter the brutal world of The Revenant, the latest film from Birdman director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. Oscar hopeful Leonadro DiCaprio stars in the story inspired by true events, playing American folklore legend Hugh Glass in a story of survival and revenge.
