AICN has the first test screening review of Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno. The reviewer says “it’s similar to “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” – it’s a raunchy sex comedy that also wants to have a sweet romance at its center” and claims the hillarious dialogue is “some of the strongest stuff I’ve heard from Smith in years”, but says “the heart of the movie doesn’t really fly”. Sounds to me like something that might be fixed in editing. It’s also revealed that Justin Long makes a cameo.

If true, thank booze. Cinema Blend says they received an email from a reader who spotted future Flash Adam Brody at a bar in British Columbia. What a tip, eh? There’s more though. Brody, who was allegedly boozing it up with director George Miller, went on to rundown the cast for the newly/oddly titled Justice League Mortal. All of the names for the superhero team were the same names being reported in the press, with one exception: the reader says Brody told her that Jumper‘s Hayden Christensen is now Superman. And then Brody apparently signed her napkin.
Bogus? Perhaps. Now, the role is rumored to be filled by relative unknown D.J. Corona, and prior to that, Scott Porter (Music and Lyrics) was also tipped. Maybe the Blend should request a photo of the napkin (“Dude, that’s Brody’s lightning bolt!”). As the site points out, is the JLM cast currently bar hopping up there for the helluva it? But Christensen would also make sense for the troubled Warner Bros. production, which is apparently scouting locations in Canada after being leaving Australia over a tax rebate disagreement. A more recognizable name would draw attention away from the damp buzz. More on this as it develops. And yeah, I agree, Christensen is not an ideal Supes.
Discuss: Have you ever run into Adam Brody at a bar? Hayden Christensen did a good nerd journo in Shattered Glass, but he also put many to sleep (permanently?) in those prequels. Thoughts? Is Justice League Mortal a silly title? Should they just go ahead and add Kombat? Have any of our Canadian readers seen Brody recently?
Warner Bros tried hard to push a movie based on the Justice League of America into production before the writers strike. But they couldn’t get all their ducks in a row, and the project was put on an indefinite hold. The names of most of the young cast had been leaked onto the interwebs, with not many fans happy with the choices. And now that the strike is over, Warner has announced that they are pushing forward with plans for a 2009 release.
The contract options of the cast members were not exercised, but the young cast was assured by the studio that they want to make the film with them in it. You can see a full list of the rumored cast below. George Miller is still attached to direct and is in pre-production on the film in Australia. First-time husband and wife screenwriters Michele and Kieran Mulroney are currently polishing up the script.
- Adam Brody – The Flash
- Common – Green Lantern
- Armie Hammer Jr. – Batman
- Megan Gale – Wonder Woman
- D.J. Cotrona – Superman (rumored)
- Hugh Keays-Byrne – Martian Manhunter (rumored)
- Teresa Palmer – Talia Al Ghul (rumored)
I don’t know about you guys, but I was hoping that this project would fall off the map into development hell, later to be reborn with a new non-teen titans vision.
Discuss: Are you still interested in seeing George Miller’s Justice League?
Last month we reported that O.C. star Adam Brody was rumored to be cast as Wally West aka The Flash in George Miller’s Justice League of America movie. Today the Los Angeles Times, who actually mentions/references SlashFilm.com, has confirmed the rumors, reporting that Brody has closed negotiations for the role. However, Warner Bros is still keeping mum. Apparently the studio wants to hold off on any announcements until all the roles are cast.
Justice League supposedly begins with the funeral of Barry Allen, the second Flash (1956-1986). His nephew (by marriage) Wally West was exposed to electrically charged chemicals at ten years old when he was visiting his uncle’s police laboratory. West donned a copy of his uncle’s outfit and became the young crime fighter named Kid Flash. After Barry Allen was killed, Wally took over as the fastest man alive. The Flash possesses “super-speed,” and superhuman reflexes which allow him to violate certain laws of physics. Wedding Crashers and Fred Claus helmer David Dobkin is signed on to direct a Flash feature film following production of Justice League.
Warner Bros is set to announce the official cast for George Miller’s Justice League of America movie next week, but studio spies have leaked a supposed preview of what we should expect. Note: none of the following cast has been officially confirmed, and being late Friday night, it’s likely we won’t hear anything until Monday at earliest. But let’s take a look at the rumored cast of Justice League.
Scott Porter (Speed Racer, Friday Night Lights) is Superman. Created in 1932, Superman is considered to be the most famous comic book character of all time. Born on an alien planet called Kryton, Kal-El was sent to Earth moments before the planet’s destruction. Adopted and raised by a Kansas farmer and his wife, Clark Kent (earth name) was brought up with a strong moral compass. Upon reaching maturity Clark developed superhuman abilities including flight, speed, strength, stamina, durability, senses, intelligence, breath, and heat vision, later resolving to use these for the benefit of humanity. Justice League Superman is supposed to take place in a different continuity than the Bryan Singer and Richard Donner stories.
Adam Brody (The O.C., Thank You For Smoking) is Wally West aka The Flash.
Common (Smokin’ Aces, Wanted) is John Stewart aka The Green Lantern, who first appeared in July 1940. The Green Lantern possesses a power ring that gives him control over the physical world as long as the wielder has sufficient willpower and strength to wield it. Greg Berlanti (The Broken Hearts Club) is set to direct a feature film based on the character following the JLA movie. Berlanti is penning the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.
Teresa Palmer (Wolf Creek, The Grudge 2) as Talia Ghul – a recurring love interest for Batman. Her father, Ra’s al Ghul, the leader of a worldwide criminal empire, considers Batman the man most worthy to marry Talia and to become his heir. Not quite heroine, nor villainess Talia has undoubtedly committed criminal acts; but out of loyalty to her father and not for personal gain. She has also saved Batman’s life or helped him on numerous occasions.
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
After months of rumors, George Miller is currently hard at work casting Justice League of America. Miller has been in Los Angeles since Saturday, auditioning a lot of young actors in a marathon casting session that started Sunday and continues through Monday. And by young actors, I mean YOUNG ACTORS. This is starting to look more like a Teen Titans movie.
Apparently, Miller wants actors who will be able to grow into their roles over the course of several movies. Did you read that? SEVERAL MOVIES. Until now it has been highly reported that Warner Bros wanted to use this team-up film as a launching pad for eventual single super-hero franchises. It appears that might be the long term plans, but Miller is looking to do more than one JLA movie.
According to Hollywood Reporter, 35 to 40 actors are set to test for Justice League, including: Adam Brody (The O.C.), Joseph Cross (Running With Scissors), D.J. Cotrona (Windfall), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Grindhouse), Michael Angarano (Sky High), Teresa Palmer (Wolf Creek), Max Thieriot (Jumper), rapper Common, Friday Night Lights stars Minka Kelly, Adrianne Palicki and Scott Porter. According to the report, the test included no costumes, and script pages.
Miller should be making some tough decisions by mid-week, which means we’ll be finding out the casting of f Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern and the Martian Manhunter probably by month’s end.
Warner Bros has released new photos and a poster for In The Land of Women, the new movie starring Adam Brody, Kristen Stewart, Meg Ryan, and Olympia Dukakis. Check out the poster and photos after the jump. As always, click for higher resolution.
