Sylvester Stallone Seems To Have A Role In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy 2', But Who Is He Playing?

Just earlier this week, one of our editions of Superhero Bits featured a rumor that Sylvester Stallone may have a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The actor had been spotted staying at the same hotel that at which the cast and crew of the Marvel Studios sequel has been put up, and he apparently left the hotel in a car usually designated to take Chris Pratt to and from set.

Now some new details confirming Stallone's involvement have come to light, but there's conflicting information as to who he's playing. Find out more about Sylvester Stallone in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 after the jump, but beware of possible spoilers.

Earlier this week, a report from On Location Vacations (via Superhero Hype) had a source saying that Stallone's wardrobe made him look a lot like Judge Dredd, the character he played in the 1995 adaptation of another sci-fi comic book. However, that seems very unlikely considering the fact that Judge Dredd is not a Marvel Comics character. So unless this is a subtle nod to the character without mentioning his name, we don't think he's playing Judge Dredd. But that doesn't mean the character doesn't look like the space cop.

In fact, this detail makes us think that he's playing someone in the Nova Corps. Here's what they look like in the comic books on the left, and what they looked like in the first movie on the right:

The costumes certainly have Judge Dredd elements, and for someone who isn't familiar with Guardians of the Galaxy comic book details, that would be a reasonable conclusion to make.

However, a more recent report from Heroic Hollywood has different information about Stallone's role in the movie. They have sources saying that Stallone is playing a Ravager, alongside the recently cast Sons of Anarchy star Tommy Flanagan. That's the interstellar group of thieves, smugglers and pirates which Yondu (Michael Rooker) and his crew are part of.

So who's right? Well, there's a chance they both could be correct. Maybe Stallone is playing a member of Nova Corps who is working undercover as part of the Ravagers. He could be tasked with keeping an eye on Yondu and his crew, or maybe he's undercover because a certain group of Ravagers is close to finding something that Nova doesn't want them to get their hands on? Or maybe at some point the Ravagers have to disguise themselves as Nova Corps members.

This is all speculation on our part, but Stallone seems to be unofficially confirmed to have a role in the movie. We just may not know what that role entails until we see the movie. So just be patient as we get closer to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hitting theaters on May 5, 2017.
