If your main problem with David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad was that there wasn’t nearly enough of it, Warner Bros. has a gift for you. And don’t worry, it’s not live rats or dead pigs. The studio has just announced a Suicide Squad extended cut to hit Digital HD and Blu-ray later this year, with 13 minutes of additional footage. Check out the Suicide Squad extended cut announcement teaser below.
Suicide Squad Extended Cut Announcement
Even as someone who enjoyed Suicide Squad more than most, I’ve got to admit the movie was a big ol‘ mess. When reports started to circulate about the conflicting visions behind the scenes, it came as little surprise. Ultimately, director David Ayer stood behind the theatrical edit of the film, insisting, “But this cut of the movie is my cut, there’s no sort of parallel universe version of the movie, the released movie is my cut.” But even at the time he admitted a good chunk of footage had to be left on the cutting room floor, so the Suicide Squad extended cut will be our chance to see some of it.
Among other things, it sounds like quite a lot of Jared Leto‘s scenes as the Joker were axed from the film. Indeed, the actor has said “there’s probably enough footage in this film for a Joker movie.” We’ve also heard about many other scenes that were allegedly cut from the movie, some of which (for better or for worse) suggest a much meaner movie than the one we got. We don’t know what bits and pieces will make it into the Suicide Squad extended cut, but those are a few things to potentially look out for.
The Suicide Squad extended cut hits Digital HD on November 15 and Blu-ray on December 13.
