'Sing' Clips: Animated 'American Idol' With Animals From Illumination Entertainment

If the Minions aren't your cup of tea, then maybe you'll be more interested in one of Illumination Entertainment's other projects coming this year. The Secret Life of Pets is the next one from the animation studio arriving this summer, but just before Christmas this year, they also have the musically charged Sing.

Like many animated movies, this one takes place in a world where animals live like humans, and one koala has fallen on hard times, unable to keep his theaters up and running. So in a last ditch effort to keep the place alive, he decides to throw an epic singing competition, and some clips of the animals auditioning for the show have just debuted before the official teaser trailer arrives next week. Watch the Sing audition clips after the jump and prepare to tap your feet.

Here are the five quick clips of animal musicality from Illumination Entertainment:

This is the first look we've gotten at this movie at all, and with the soundtrack reportedly touting no less than 85 hit songs, this is bound to be something that will have your kids singing in the movie theater, and maybe some adults will join in.

Sing is written and directed by Garth Jennings (Son of Rambow, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and features quite the voice cast, including Matthew McConaughey as the theater owner and five lead contestants played by Seth MacFarlane, Tori Kelly, Reese Witherspoon, Taron Egerton and Scarlett Johansson. Plus, John C. Reilly has a voice role as well.

If you want to know more about the story, here's the official synopsis.

'Sing' stars Buster Moon (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey), a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal optimist—okay, maybe a bit of a scoundrel—who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now facing the crumbling of his life's ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world's greatest singing competition.

Five lead contestants emerge: A mouse (Seth MacFarlane) who croons as smoothly as he cons, a timid teenage elephant (Tori Kelly) with an enormous case of stage fright, an overtaxed mother (Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon) run ragged tending a litter of 25 piglets, a young gangster gorilla (Taron Egerton) looking to break free of his family's felonies, and a punk-rock porcupine (Scarlett Johansson) struggling to shed her arrogant boyfriend and go solo. Each animal arrives under Buster's marquee believing that this is their shot to change the course of their life.

Sing arrives on December 21 this holiday season.
