The future! We love movies about the future, in part because they give creators the chance to really play with convention and visual design. So we’ve got set pics from four films set in the near to distant future, thanks to the wave of sci-fi films that is hitting theaters and producers’ offices in the wake of successful superhero pictures.

After the break:

  • Check out the rather colorful street set of Terry Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem,
  • RoboCop engages in a little offensive driving,
  • Gaze in wonder at Tom Cruise in fairly mundane military dress for All You Need is Kill,
  • Finally, see Jennifer Lawrence and other Hunger Games combatants in their new battle gear.

First up is a video overlooking the set of The Zero Theorem, which is the new film from Terry Gilliam. Bleeding Cool scored the video of this street scene, which shows the cars and strange costumes of Gilliam’s futuristic vision, not to mention the best fire truck I think I’ve ever seen.

The Zero Theorem stars Christoph Waltz as a computer scientist waiting for a phone call as he is preoccupied with puzzling out a theorem to determine the reason for human existence. It also features Tilda Swinton, Matt Damon, and Melanie Thierry, with Peter Stormare and Sanjeev Bhaskar.

From Loading Doc comes a handful of videos showing a stuntman acting as RoboCop while piloting the character’s new motorcycle through a street chase. The link in that previous sentence will take you to some images of the futuristic cars in Jose Padilha‘s new film starring Joel Kinnaman, but here’s some video evidence:

Meanwhile, Bleeding Cool also provides this video of a chopper landing in London, which is part of the Doug Liman film All You Need is Kill, starring Tom Cruise as a guy whose first day into battle ends with his death. But death isn’t so final, as Cruise finds himself alive again and again, reliving his final day with increasing mastery over the battlefield.

First up is the video, and then, from the Daily Mail, a gallery of Cruise gallivanting around in costume. All told, it’s a lot less, well, futuristic, I guess, than I might have hoped to see. But as the header image shows — the first official photo from the production, that is — things do get more tech-y, and more intense at some point in the film.

All You Need is Kill was written by Dante Harper, Christopher McQuarrie and Joby Harold, and also features Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Jonas Armstrong, and Charlotte Riley. It opens on March 7th, 2014.

Finally, there’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The latter half of the gallery above shows the new suits that tributes will wear in the Hunger Games as depicted in the series’ second film, under way now with director Francis LawrenceThe Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens on November 22, 2013, with Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland.
