It’s The Hangover meets Grumpy Old Men and now it’s got some real star power too. Robert De Niro and Michael Douglas have joined the cast of Last Vegas, a comedy written by Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love) and directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice). The film follows four friends who head to Las Vegas for the bachelor party of a friend marrying a woman half his age. Read more after the jump.

Deadline broke the news of the two Oscar-winners joining this sure to be silly film, which will be distributed by CBS Films.

The project was first floated in 2010 when Fogelman was hoping to get Jack Nicholson to star in the film. About a year later, Turteltaub came on board and that name went away. However, with De Niro and Douglas now on board, who knows? The list of top notch male actors in that age group is considerable and potentially exciting. Just off the top of my head: Pacino, Eastwood, Caine, Murray, Duvall, Caan, Freeman, I mean the list goes on and on.

While it’s not clear if the friend who is getting married is the lead or one of the other guys, ala The Hangover, Douglas plays the long time bachelor tying the knot and De Niro is reportedly “the party-averse Paddy Connelly, who reluctantly agrees to fly to Vegas at the request of his friends.” He and Douglas’ character have a long running feud over, what else, a girl.

Last Vegas will be at Cannes trying to get some more money before it goes into production. Even if two no name guys are cast as the other friends, I sincerely doubt this film doesn’t get made.
