New Line Is Making A 'Private Benjamin' Remake Starring Rebel Wilson

After putting in her time with the Barden Bellas, Rebel Wilson will be reporting for duty to the the U.S. military. The Aussie actress is attached to star in Private Benjamin, New Line's remake of the 1980 comedy starring Goldie Hawn. Hit the jump for more details on the new version.

The Private Benjamin remake has been in the works for some time. In 2010, Anna Faris was linked to the lead role of a spoiled woman who winds up in the Army. But the project seems to have evolved since then. For one thing, Wilson's hick character wasn't even mentioned in earlier reports about the film, but now it sounds like she's the lead, or one of the leads.

For what it's worth, though, the word back then was this reboot would not "poke fun at the men and women in the service or take political potshots, but rather focus on the empowerment elements and build on the fish-out-of-water comedy."

Private Benjamin is still looking for a director, which means it'll probably be a bit of time yet before it starts shooting. In the meantime, though, Wilson's plans will have plenty of opportunities to see her onscreen.

Since breaking out in 2011's Bridesmaids, Wilson has been in high demand. She has spent the past year starring in the ABC comedy Super Fun Night, which she created herself. The show looks likely to get cancelled, but no matter — she also has movie roles in Night at the Museum 3, Kung Fu Panda 3, and Pitch Perfect 2 coming up.
