Oscar Isaac has a message for Star Wars theorists out there: You’re wrong. In a new interview, one of the stars of Star Wars: The Force Awakens says that most of the theories based on the first trailer for the film “couldn’t be more far off-base.” And while you’d love to believe him, I wonder just how deep into the online speculation he’s dug. Read more from Isaac and about these claims below.

Isaac was talking to Yahoo Movies about his new film, A Most Violent Year, when of course Star Wars: The Force Awakens rumors came up.

He talked about the secrecy surrounding the script:

You go to the place, and they have a room with cameras and you sit there and read the script. They’re incredibly protective, because nowadays, with however many hundreds of blogs and this and that, people are just ravenous for content. So because of that, there has to be such tight security around it. And it gets in the way of the process a bit, but it’s understandable.

He talked about the excitement of flying the X-Wing:

It was hard to believe that I was actually sitting in there and doing that. And it’s physical. You have to kind of get in touch with that child again that had a little X-Wing and would fly around his room making crazy sounds, you had to tap into that spirit again and that was a lot fun. There was a lot of practical effects. A lot of the stuff they actually made. There wasn’t a lot of green screen.

And finally, he talked about fans being so crazy for information and Force Awakens rumors:

I can’t speak for the cast and crew, I can just speak for myself, but for me I thought, “Don’t you want to wait so you can get the real thing?” But it creates excitement for it. I don’t think these little leaks necessarily ruined watching the trailer. And also, the [plot theories] that get that formulated based on these things — they couldn’t be more far off-base.

It’s that last quote that’s most interesting. Without going into specifics, does Isaac mean everything out there is wrong? Or just some of the misinformation here and there. I sincerely doubt he’s had the time to follow theories and speculations like many of us have. And most of those theories and speculation come from people who’ve seen actual concept art from the film. For example, I know for a fact some of the speculation out there is real. Not huge plot stuff persay, but just general, small ideas. Like where Rey lives or what Kylo Ren looks like from the other side. The real answer to those question is out there. As for bigger stuff, who plays who, how it all fits in and the end of the movie? Yes, much of it could be false.

It would be really, really cool if literally everything out there was wrong. If even the most crazy spoiler hunters sat down on December 18, 2015 and were totally surprised. Unfortunately, I think the answer is most likely in the middle. Yes there is a lot of false speculation out there but, like they said in The X-Files, the truth is out there too.
