The Mondo Mystery Movie is a simple concept. Blindly buy a ticket for a movie with the promise that not only will you see a cool movie, but you’ll get a limited edition poster that will never be sold anywhere else. The catch is, you don’t know what the movie or poster is until you sit in the theater.
Mondo has already done two successful Mystery Movies in their hometown of Austin, TX which turned out to be Akira and Jurassic Park. Now, they’re taking the show on the road as they’ll present three straight nights of Mondo Mystery Movies at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles on October 7, 8, 9. That’s three nights, two different movies each night for a total of six movies and six posters. Wow. Read more after the jump.
Usually movies at the New Bev are $7 for two but you can be sure these will be almost 5-10 times that price because the ticket includes the price of a poster. Price aside, the question becomes does Mondo adopt the New Beverly “Double Feature” mantra and sell one ticket for two movies each night or will each movie be a separate admission? Either way, all that info will come out Tuesday morning.
(Or maybe Monday night. Mondo is hosting some kind of special event at the New Beverly on Monday September 12. No word on the details, but they will reportedly be announced at noon that day.)
I’m so excited about this I might literally lose sleep over it. What will the movies be? How fast will ticket sell out? Can I go to more than one night? I need info! How about you?
