Michael Shannon Dodges, Then Confirms, CGI Zod Suit In 'Man Of Steel'

When it comes to upcoming movies, actors and directors regularly deny rumors only to have them confirmed days later. We, as fans, tends to forgive this blatant lying because there's hope those people lie to try and preserve our enjoyment of the final product. Sometimes, however, the tables are turned and it's nice to know fans and journalists aren't the only ones who get contradictory information when it comes to upcoming movies.

A few weeks back we saw photos of what appeared to be Michael Shannon on the Man of Steel set in a full motion capture suit. Shannon is now doing press for his impressive work in Take Shelter (pictured above). When questioned by MTV about the Zod suit, the actor deflected the issue. Then, in an interview with Moviefone, the Oscar-nominee flat-out confirmed that not only is he wearing a motion capture suit, but Zack Snyder lied to him about it. Follow the drama yourself after the break.

Let's start with the original photo just so we're all on the same page. Thanks to Ed Larom.

Next up, here's an interview that Shannon did with MTV in which he discusses working on the film, being intimidated by Terrence Stamp's performance and deflects all questions about the motion capture suit. It's worth a watch.

So, it seems like Shannon can't say anything, right? Wrong. Here's what he said to Moviefone:

Yeah, it's one of the most humiliating garments that exists in the known universe, yes. It's very tight. It has a variety of different colors and shapes on it and it makes you feel like you're the court jester. And it's funny because when I met with Zack we were talking about it before it started and he mentioned that there was going to be a lot of CGI, or whatever. I said, 'Just don't make me wear one of those silly suits.' He said, 'Oh, yeah, don't worry, I know exactly what you're talking about.' I was like, 'It's going to be really hard for me to be intimidating if I have to wear one of those silly suits.' He said, 'I totally understand.' Then I showed up and he's like, 'Dude, I swear to God, it's going to be so bad ass when we done. Trust me, it's going to be wicked.' And, you know, people understand and you get used to it. The first day, you feel like you're getting rushed by a fraternity... and then it wears off the next day. Because I'm not the only one wearing one – there are other people wearing them, too.

You've got to love this kind of stuff. Ultimately, though, we just have verbal confirmation of what a photo already told us. General Zod will be – at least partially – CGI in Man of Steel.
