With just a few weeks left until the United States votes for the next President of the United States of America (as well as plenty of other important political offices and issues, the election is really heating up. We’re now in the month where campaigns pull out all the stops and do everything in their power to win the election. Thanks to what is known as the “October surprise,” that usually means digging up dirt on opposing candidates and running smear campaigns to besmirch their reputation. And it sounds like documentary filmmaker Michael Moore might be getting involved in that election tradition.
Here’s what Michael Moore posted to Twitter on Saturday:
Yes, some rumors may be true. I "might" be putting the finishing touches on an "October Surprise" for this election. Then again…

I had no idea that there were rumors swirling about some kind of Michael Moore 2016 election movie, but whatever rumors there may have been seem to have at least some truth to them. However, Moore doesn’t seem entirely confident that he’ll follow through with this one. Perhaps he’s been working on some kind of documentary intended to highlight information about one of the presidential candidates, but is unsure if it’s something that needs to be released.
We know that Michael Moore was a staunch supporter of once hopeful Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders when the primaries were taking place. He even went so far as to officially endorse him on his website. But since Hillary Clinton ended up winning the primary to become the Democratic candidate for President of the United States, Moore has somewhat reluctantly thrown his support behind Clinton in order to defeat Republican candidate Donald Trump. He explained his reasoning while also calling Clinton one of the reasons that Trump was going to win the Republican nomination:
“Can we speak honestly, just among ourselves? And before we do, let me state, I actually like Hillary – a lot – and I think she has been given a bad rap she doesn’t deserve. But her vote for the Iraq War made me promise her that I would never vote for her again. To date, I haven’t broken that promise. For the sake of preventing a proto-fascist from becoming our commander-in-chief, I’m breaking that promise. I sadly believe Clinton will find a way to get us in some kind of military action. She’s a hawk, to the right of Obama. But Trump’s psycho finger will be on The Button, and that is that. Done and done.”
Maybe the reason Moore isn’t confident about releasing whatever his “October surprise” may be is because he doesn’t truly believe in Hillary as the best candidate for president, but merely the better option of the choices we’ve been given. Whatever he’s been working on, I wouldn’t expect it to be a theatrically released documentary, but probably some kind of online video. He’s got 23 days to decide if he wants to put anything else out there to influence the election.
Say what you will about Michael Moore’s politics, but the filmmaker is a passionate one who is not shy to have films with a clear message. Some will say that filmmakers should stick to making movies rather than talking politics, but Moore is one of those filmmakers who makes documentaries strictly about social and political issues, so he’s doing exactly what he sets out to do with his movies. At the end of the day, he’s a US citizen like the rest of us and has the right to express his opinion just like you, no matter who you’re voting for this election.Cool Posts From Around the Web:
