The second rumors began circulating of an all-female Ghostbusters, the first person people though of was Melissa McCarthy. The Bridesmaids star is the most popular female comedic actress out there right now and her inclusion seemed like a forgone conclusion. That got even more likely when her frequent collaborator, Paul Feig, signed on to direct.
However, while McCarthy will probably, eventually, end up in the new Ghostbusters film, she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she not yet been cast. Watch McCarthy talk about the film, along with Lena Dunham and Ellen DeGeneres, below.
If you don’t want to watch the video, after a round of Heads Up, DeGeneres tells Dunham and McCarthy they should all do Ghostbusters 3 together, to which Dunham said the following:
I have to say, since I’ve heard that rumor I think every lady in town who fancies herself a jokester wants in.
McCarthy currently appears with original Ghostbuster Bill Murray in the fantastic St. Vincent, and he gave the actress his seal of approval to join the franchise. He also suggested Linda Cardellini, Kristen Wiig and Emma Stone. The latter two have had their names thrown around for some time.
Nevertheless, McCarthy is the odds on favorite out of everyone. Mostly because she’s starred in Paul Feig’s last two films, Bridesmaids and The Heat, as well as his next one too, Spy, which hits theaters May 22. If she’s not in yet, no one is in yet.
Once Spy comes out, we’ll likely hear a bunch more about what the director has in store for Ghostbusters, but here’s what he said a few weeks back:
My favorite thing to do is work with funny women. I was like, what if it was an all female cast? If they were all women? Suddenly, my mind kind of exploded: that would be really fun… For me there’s so many ways I can go with this because there are so many funny women that’s going to be the hardest thing to narrow down is who to put in. I’ve got a lot of ideas on that but nobody set in stone.
Who do you think will be in the female Ghostbusters cast? Do Dunham or DeGeneres have a chance?Cool Posts From Around the Web:
