Mark Ruffalo captain america

As it stands right now, Captain America: Civil War will include every single Earth-bound superhero in the MCU minus two: Thor and Hulk. They’re even adding in the new people like Ant-Man. So why are those two characters not in the movie? Thor, at least, has a solo movie that should cover his absence but Hulk does not. Last we saw the mean, green machine he was in a S.H.I.E.L.D plane hoping to get lost from the world.

According to Mark Ruffalo, the actor behind Hulk, he hasn’t heard anything about the movie except from one person: Robert Downey Jr. Tony Stark himself told Ruffalo he was in Civil War, but Ruffalo says he hasn’t heard from anyone else beyond that. Read the Mark Ruffalo Captain America Civil War quotes and more below.

Ruffalo was talking to Hitfix about his wonderful new movie, Infinitely Polar Bear, when he said this:

If Robert Downey, Jr. says I’m in ‘Captain America,’ I’m in ‘Captain America’ dammit. And I will wait for the day that my call sheet shows up at my doorstep or my script. At this point, I’m told that I’m in it by Robert, which I’ll take as biblical, but I just haven’t heard or seen from production yet.

And here’s the video:

Okay, let’s be honest here. Mark Ruffalo knows whether or not he’s in Captain America: Civil War. He’s just trying to be cagey about it because it’s probably a secret. Marvel isn’t the type of company to not call one of their key actors about appearing in a movie. If anything, maybe he has a role like he did in Iron Man 3, just a short credits sequence or brief cameo that wouldn’t necessitate too much of a heads up. A post credits tie-in could make sense to reveal the Hulk’s whereabouts as we start Phase Three. But if he isn’t on set right now, he’s not going to be a part of the actual “War” in the film.

Captain America: Civil War will be released May 6, 2016.
