With Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel approaching faster than a speeding bullet, it’s only natural to think about its place in a potential DC Comic Movie Universe. Warner Bros. has been developing a Justice League film for sometime and after Marvel’s successful integration of five films into The Avengers, fans have come to expect continuity and teases in their big budget superhero movies. Will Man of Steel continue the trend?
Expanding on a suggestion he gave way back at Comic-Con, Snyder said that Man of Steel keeps the universe “on course” for future films, such as Justice League. Read his quote and more after the jump.
Snyder spoke to the New York Post about his June 13 film and focused mostly on the responsibility of handling the Superman iconography, Henry Cavill getting into the suit and things like that. He then got into the talk of Justice League and if he’d come back for a sequel. Here’s what Snyder said about the latter:
We approach the film as a single endeavor. There are a lot of gears that have to turn in the world of commerce and the world of the mythology we create to facilitate more adventures for this character. We’ll see what happens.
He was then asked about Justice League:
I don’t know how ‘Justice League’ is going to be handled. Honestly, I don’t. “But ‘The Man of Steel’ exists, and Superman is in it. I don’t know how you’d move forward without acknowledging that.
Finally, the question if Warner Bros. asked him to place Man of Steel in a large universe:
Um, how can I answer that? I can’t really say anything to that, because that’s a big spoiler. I will say, yeah, they trust me to keep them on course.
I think we can all agree if Man of Steel didn’t at least leave room for it to be set in a larger world, it would be a huge, huge mistake by Warner Bros. A post-credits tease would be exciting to get fans talking but as long as the consequences of the story and growth of the character can be seen in subsequent movies, that would be enough. It sounds like it’ll be more than that, though.
How do you think Man of Steel will leave the door open for Justice League?
