How To Build Your Own 'Ghostbusters' Ghost Trap

When the reboot of Ghostbusters arrives next summer, we'll be seeing a whole new crew of paranormal exterminators played by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, and they have some cool new gear to bust ghosts too.

But nothing will ever beat the original gear that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson used to save New York City. The proton packs are undoubtedly the most iconic part of what makes someone a Ghostbuster, but next in line is the ghost trap. And now a helpful new video shows you how to make your own Ghostbusters ghost trap.

Here's the how-to video from DIY Prop Shop:

This comes from the same folks who showed us how to make a hoverboard from Back to the Future Part II for $33, and the good news is that making this ghost trap was made for even less money. With all the materials on hand, Dustin McLean made this for just $15, but he says even if you don't have the paint or a few other things, it shouldn't be hard to make this ghost trap for $25, which is still infinitely less than the $700+ price tag to get the Matty Collector version on eBay.

It may not light up like a more authentic prop replica, but if you're looking to make some cheap cosplay or an awesome Halloween costume for this fall, this doesn't sound like a bad idea if bustin' makes you feel good. However, making that proton pack will likely prove to be a little more difficult and expensive, so you might want to get a head start right now.

In the meantime, check out what kind of gear the new Ghostbusters will be messing around with in photos from a charity visit from the cast and some prop photos released by director Paul Feig right here.
