I like this Lee Pace guy. He’s awesome in Lincoln, was great in Pushing Daisies and is sure to be good in The Hobbit, once his character appears. The actor hit the red carpet for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey this week and confirmed he’s auditioning for James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy on Monday, loves the script and has been researching the Star-Lord. Watch the interview below.

Thanks to MTV (via CBM) for the interview and Pace for actually answering, something I’m sure he’ll get guff from Marvel for doing.

Isn’t it refreshing to see an actor answer a question honestly, and show some honest to god excitement for what’s sure to be a very sought-after role?

As we previously reported, Pace is on a short list of actors who are up for the lead in the 2014 Marvel movie. He’s competing against Joel Edgerton (Warrior), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas) and Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables). Redmayne also sort of acknowledged he’s considering the project in an interview with MTV.

Guardians of the Galaxy, re-written and directed by James Gunn, is scheduled for release on August 1, 2014. Here’s the brief description that’s been floating around:

A U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.

Do you think Pace is right for the role?
