'Terminator' Creator James Cameron Endorses 'Terminator Genisys'

"If you like the Terminator films, you're going to like this movie." That's a director quote from James Cameron, the creator, writer and director of the two universally-praised Terminator films, The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. After Cameron parted ways with the franchise, two terrible sequels were released, ensuring that Cameron's name was permanently attached to the phrase "good Terminator movie."

This summer, Hollywood trying again with Terminator Genisys, a film that subverts almost everything you knew about the franchise from Cameron's films. The creator had very little to do with the film so watching it, he says he's came at it from a "fanboy" perspective. And with that eye, Cameron says he loved the film. He views it as the third film in the series. Watch the James Cameron Terminator Genisys quotes below.

Thanks to Yahoo for the video. Beware though. If you thought the previous trailers and TV spots had spoilers, you haven't seen anything yet. Lots of new footage and discussion here.

James Cameron Terminator Genisys Featurette

I'd have to say on a list of people's opinions I respect and was curious about for Terminator Genisys, James Cameron is right at the top of the list. He has nothing to gain from the movie being good. If it's bad, Paramount doesn't make anymore movies and Cameron gets the rights back in a few years. If it's good, they keep making movies and he never gets control again. So him heaping praise on the film 100% gets me more interesting in the sequel. If anyone knows what makes a good Terminator movie, it's James Cameron.

Then again, he did make a choice to talk about the movie, right? The makers of this featurette didn't accost him on the street TMZ style to get his opinion. He sat down in a controlled environment and knew why he was there – to tell people he liked Terminator Genisys.

James Cameron doesn't have to lie. I'm almost certain if he felt Genisys was more along the lines of Terminator: Rise of the Machines or Terminator Salvation, he would have politely passed on putting his face into the public endorsing the film. I genuinely believe – all other arguments aside – he likes this movie. Let's hope we do too.

Terminator Genisys opens July 1.
