'Hellraiser: Origins' Short Playing Tonight At HollyShorts; See Teaser And Concept Art

While Dimension Films continues to try and figure out what they want to do with the Hellraiser franchise, a Hellraiser movie that never was is making its way to screens tonight. Mike Le Han will screen his short film Hellraiser: Origins, originally conceived as a pitch to reboot the film series, as part of the ongoing HollyShorts monthly screening series.

Hellraiser: Origins ultimately didn't get picked up by Dimension Films. But it did catch the attention of the internet, thanks to its artfully creepy vibe. After the jump, watch the Hellraiser Origins teaser, eyeball some eerie concept art, and find out how you can actually watch the short.

Director Mike Le Han and producer Paul Gerrard shared a brief look at the Hellraiser: Origins pitch video on Vimeo.

As if that weren't intriguing enough, Le Han also shared some gruesome concept art. Yeah, these are going to feature in some nightmares tonight.

Here's how Le Han and Gerrard described their pitch in 2012:

In July Paul Gerrard and Mike Le Han produced a teaser trailer to accompany the pitch document which has many more conceptual designs that revision Hellraiser. Paul designed the new look for Pinhead and was production designer on the shoot and Le Han pulled in all of his film resources and directed the teaser on the new Alex 4:3 camera with anamorphic lenses.

With a crew of 47 and over 100 bloodied extras, the shoot was completed and is now in the depths of post production with a massive amount of VFX work being undertaken. Method Studios, Fugitive Studios and Flipbook Animation are helming the chi/VFX with the talented Glen Southern designing (CG build of) the new Hellraiser box.

When the teaser is complete they'll be presenting it to Dimension Films along with an outline of the first film story and conceptual art pitch document with the hope to work on rebooting the Hellraiser franchise and bringing it into the 21st Century.

Again, Hellraiser: Origins isn't officially a Hellraiser film, but a short designed to get Dimension Films' attention. Still, it's been nearly 20 years since Pinhead hit the big screen. It's nice to think he'll be back tonight in some form, even if only for a brief time.

Oh, and speaking of time: The HollyShorts monthly screening series has three different screenings tonight, October 29Hellraiser: Origins will play in the 9 PM slot. It's not too late to get tickets, so if you're looking to celebrate Halloween a little bit early, why not give it a shot?
