'Harry Potter And The Cursed Child' First Look: Harry, Ginny, And Albus Severus Pose For A Family Portrait

An entire generation of readers and moviegoers have grown up alongside Harry Potter, tracking him from his neglected childhood in the Dursleys' cupboard all the way to his defeat of Voldemort at the Battle of Hogwarts. Now this summer, the new play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child promises to follow the Boy Who Lived well into adulthood. Jamie Parker stars as Harry, now a middle-aged father of three, while Poppy Miller plays Ginny and Sam Clemmett their son Albus. The first photos of the actors in character have just been released, and you can check 'em out after the jump. 

The Cursed Child actors weren't necessarily cast to resemble their big-screen counterparts, but the unruly black hair, round wire-frame spectacles, and lightning scar allow Parker to slip seamlessly into Harry's iconic look. I can't wait to see the first images of Noma Dumezweni and Paul Thornley, who play the middle-aged Hermione and Ron. Everyone looks deadly serious in these photos, but there is something kind of endearing about that family portrait. Albus' expression should look familiar to anyone who's ever been roped into an awkward family gathering against their will.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will officially premiere in London's Palace Theater on July 30. Previews begin later this month. And if you can't make it over to the West End to see the show, look for the script book to hit shelves on July 31 (which also happens to be Harry Potter's birthday).

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
