'Guardians Of The Galaxy 2': Lee Pace Wants To Return As Ronan

It's a given that Chris Pratt will be back for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, along with, we can probably assume, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper. And if it were up to Lee Pace, his name would be on that cast list, too.

In an interview, Pace gushed that he'd "love" to reprise his role from the first film as Ronan the Accuser. But is it a real possibility? Read his Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Ronan comments after the jump.

Speaking with IGN, Pace was very clear about his desire to play Ronan again. "I love the character," he said. "I'd love to play him again! Who knows!?"

He continued:

I loved that film. I was so proud to be a part of that whole fun moment. I found the character very, very interesting, exceptionally, and in playing him — this kind of charismatic space terrorist. The idea is fascinating. I had to kind of crack the way the character thought. For me, I think he's doing what's right for his people. He's going to right a wrong. He's annihilating the weak in favor of the strong. That's a different set of values, and he's fighting for them.

However, whether he'll actually get the opportunity is a different question. Pace admitted he'd be "the last person" to know whether Ronan will be back.

For one thing, there's the fact that (spoiler alert) Ronan is destroyed in the climactic showdown. That doesn't mean a return is impossible — comic book characters are resurrected all the time, and failing that, there's always the possibility of flashbacks — but there's no obvious way to work him in.

The bigger issue, though, might be that Marvel doesn't really care about its baddies. The MCU is littered with one-dimensional villains who terrorized our heroes for one film and were never heard from again. (Loki is the rare exception.) There's room to flesh out Ronan's backstory, but is anyone really interested in hearing it?

With or without Ronan, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 opens May 5, 2017. While we wait to see if Pace will be back, check him out in a blooper reel dance-off below:
