'Green Lantern' Trailer #2

After months of waiting and speculation, Warner Bros. and DC have released a second trailer for Green Lantern, the June 17th release directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Mark Strong. You can expect to see it in front of many prints of Thor this weekend. And no, it's not just a rehash of the Wondercon footage. Check it out after the jump.

Thanks to Yahoo Movies for the trailer.

While the new trailer certainly shares some footage from the Wondercon reel that showed up online last month, the new effects shots look polished and the overall story of Green Lantern is better defined here. Let's face it, this is a movie about a bunch of aliens dressed in green who police the universe. It was never going to look gritty and realistic like a Christopher Nolan superhero film.

With that in mind, the stuff between Sinestro, Kilowog, Tomar-Re and Hal not only looks solid, but is totally engaging because of the voices, performances and interaction. Plus, the brief glimpses we get of the assumed third act where Hal and the Lanterns come to Earth look beyond epic.

Also, it was smart to make this trailer a complete 180 from the first teaser we got which focused more on the relationship between Hal and Carol. In fact the only real goofiness we get is the scene we've already seen of Hal trying to figure out the Lantern Oath.

Still, no one seems to think Green Lantern is going to do well this summer. Too many other superhero movies, not a great release date, rushed and unrealistic effects. The laundry list of possible negatives goes on and on. But if everything works, I think there's more potential for this character than Thor or Captain America or the X-Men. What do you think? And what are your thoughts on the brand new trailer?
